Call the Apple peeps, they're pretty good on the phone and have always told me what I want to know. My macbook battery died when I'd only had it a few months so I have personal experience of them.
Has the screen smashed? I saw a smashed one yesterday and the screen looked like a car windscreen when something's hit it.

Yeah, it's holding together, but all fractured. Feels slightly rough - will have to be careful not to cut my finger.

Someone I know has been using one of these for months to hold in a completely shattered screen. Apparently it functions totally normally despite looking pretty fucked up...

Could you not get insurance now, use the screen protector for a month or so, then claim?
-

Are you sure you don't have insurance without realising it? e.g. with your bank account, or accidental damage cover on home contents?

You can only take up the official o2 insurance within 28 days of purchase...

I'm going to whack some film on there and wait until I have some cash for a fix. Last month's little problem needs sorting, too. I'm not having a good time with technology right now.

You have to wait at least two months before claiming though.

I can't do that. Guilty conscience would give me an ulcer.

The exact same thing happened to me with my Macbook Pro a couple of days ago, except mine was in a soft case and fell on to carpet.
I'm going to buy a protective film (which is going to set me back about £25 as I'm in Colorado at the moment and can only get it from the Apple store), but repairs will involve an entirely new screen - about £400. Feels bad, man.

A big virtual hug for you, let's share this pain.

That is pretty fucking hi-tech compared to my phone.

So, I was out in the garage tinkering with my Thorn, and I dropped my iPhone from about 6 inches off the floor. It's smashed.
I have no insurance, and I've just been told that Apple do on-the-spot repairs for £180. Has anyone tried this, is it true?
So angry. I was going to spend that money on the bike. Now I have to waste it on a bloody phone.
My mate bought a replacement screen from ebay for about £30 and fitted himself, its a fiddly job but he's done a couple now and they work fine.
