As I said, I'm happy to instruct the class but can't host and don't want to organise any longer. I live in East London too so should be easy for me to get to tee's place.

I've got all the bits ordered already (resolved to try building them myself even if another class wasn't about to happen) so I'd be up for getting involved in the learning side of it! Live West but happy to ride wherever it happens.

Right.
The previous class was on a Sunday afternoon...which would be a nice but for my part only doable on 26.7 & 6.9.
How long was the last class btw? Most weeks could do a Saturday morning breakfast & wheel building session - bring your own bacon - but would need to finish around 1pm?

Lace as per usual but only cross twice, first one over, second under? No different to 3 cross. Make sure that you feed x2 cross pattern into whichever spokes calculator you're using to get the right length.
It really is that simple, thanks. Part of my thickness is expecting things to be harder than they are in reality. Have to give it some tension now.

What are peoples thoughts on trueing a wheel build with a screwdriver from the outside of the rim? I've lent out my spoke key and want to get this wheel done. Imagine it will take an age but may be do-able. Before i dive in has anybody got first hand knoledge?

Depending on how long your spokes are you won't be able to do it because they threads poke through too far. Also, when tight the nipples are harder to turn - particularly when through the rim. But it is possible.

Good point. Looks ok now and fairly tight so I might get away with it. Prob wait and do it with a key anyhow.

I'd be up for a sesh too...missed the last one. Have bacon, will travel. Beer in the morning also sounds like a good look.

Well then. I don't mind organizing and hosting. I'm regularly free on Saturday mornings and although I have to leave for work around 1pm I can get someone else to sit in for me.
ehren_fried_chicken has kindly offered to instruct so the date will much depend on him.
Quite a few people have expressed interest. I suggest to do a list with your name and any dates that you cannot make it on a Saturday.
How's that?

I would love to do this. I've got the leaving East London ride on the 5th and am pretty sure I have plans on the 12th. If this is on for the other Saturdays or any Sunday, then I'm in.

Well, that's already a nice crowd. How about Sunday, Sept 6?
And can someone organise a 2nd truing stand? I have one but there will be a looong queue if it is the only one.
And if you guys could print out the following illustrations (extracted from Sheldon's instructions): http://lenni.info/edd/Wheelbuilding_instructions.pdf
I'm gonna bring a copy but I think it'd be easier if everybody had one.

Right on. Don't know if I'll have new hubs and rims for a wheelbuild by then but I've got a couple wheels that I can pull apart first. Which area of London is this going to be in?
-
• #399
Tee said he/she lives in East London. I guess it will be in that sorta area...

That's good enough for me.
Although I hope to get more specific directions before the date.

I'd be interested in hosting a wheel building class and although I've instructed in the past I wouldn't like to do it this time...could help out though. Anyone? Location would be ever so lively East London and there should be all usual spoke lengths and tools and bits for backup.
