  • September? It wouldn't let me go past Aug.. wtf? Train bookign systems hate me.

What you've done there looks pretty good.

  • It's about that weekend a couple of us are doing a dry run of the 96 mile Tour of the Peak route.

This climb comes in at the 75 mile mark........

  • Awesome, 7 km climb with max gradient at 11%. Is that right?

I defo wanna get up there at somepoint. We're going to UCI Track World Cup end of Nov anyhows, reckon we could squeeze a ride on the Sunday (after 2 nites on beers)?

  • Yep could do. If you're staying in Manchester, set off say 9 or 10 am, maybe do a 50 miler around the C&F or something. Or get a local train out to the edge of the Peak District somewhere and do a ride.

Yeah, it's a tough climb and is regularly used in The Tour of Britain, having said that it could more like this in november.......

  • that sportive looks excellent. i am signed up for this: http://www.exmoorbeast.org/

    expecting similar extreme conditions...

How fond are you of southerners? And I mean.. real southerners.. :)

  • I can give you some great advice for loosing weight without actually reducing eating. I lost at least 12kg for the etape and it made a massive difference.
I'm pretty scared of the marmotte now, just finished the etape and it was very hard! I still want to do it though!

  • Well done on the etape finish. I'm pumped for Marmotte (or any other big montagne rides) after climbing some of the 'easier' stuff. Positive thinking man.. it'll get the fattest bastard over anything. :)

But.. what is this magic that you are talking about? Does it involve doses of amphetamines or something? You do know there's no magic pills for this, right? 12kg.. fuck.. that'd be nice. I might lose my tree trunk split calves though.. that would be sad. So.. feel free to offer up the advice now.. :)

  • When do you need to/ can you register for Marmotte? I thought I read something about signing up until just before the date?

  • Slight complication with virgin trains: "Bike Reservations - We have special bike storage areas on-board our trains with space for up to 4 bikes or 2 tandems. Due to limited space you will need to book a reservation for your bike before you travel. The service is free and can be made at any booking office or by calling 08457 222 333. We regret that it is currently not possible to make bike reservations online."

  • I usually book at the station anyway because the websites are fucked in the head.

Marmotte entry early 2010, read the guide here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Marmotte

  • A Virgin train will barely get you to Macc, let alone the Marmotte!

Registration for the Marmotte opens Dec/Jan and you're advised to book accommodation by February or Bourg d'Oisans gets chocca.

  • James, I think the bike shop in sheen does regular turbo sessions (well they did do a few years back). I can write you a few session plans....I think you would be better off in the comfort of your own home rather than sweating through some poor buggers floor. By the way is this a weight loss idea or an plan to improve performance?

Hippy, nice wheels. What about CORIMA'S?

  • PocketFull, please be kind to us. The image of a sweaty James at this time in the morning has quite upset the digestion of my breakfast. Then again, that could be my way to weight loss. Photos of a sweaty James stuck on the fridge door.

  • cunto be quiet. I painted my fridge door black, the vast expanse of darkness is what its like to be draughting you, there is always the concern that you are so dense that if I get to close I will go past the event horizon and be sucked into your blackhole.

  • James, I would ask you to leave my blackhole alone but it doesn't matter.

  • don't worry, some poor doctor is about to have a close encounter with mine, at chelsea and westminster waiting for surgeon to examine my saddle sores!

  • Are those the same saddle sores you were complaining of last winter? Ugh!

  • Hippy, nice wheels. What about CORIMA'S?

Corimas like Zipp can be purchased RIM only so they are an option. I've got to think about what I'm using them for since I need some TT wheels more so than lighter wheels and I wonder if I can build some lighter climbing wheels. Ksyrium ES that I have now are 1500g a set so they'd need to be lighter than that and it starts to get a bit silly when I weigh so much. :)

    Do you work for Quest?

  • don't worry, some poor doctor is about to have a close encounter with mine, at chelsea and westminster waiting for surgeon to examine my saddle sores!

    ouch!

Yeah this normally works fine. Just make platform staff aware of your booking and they sort you out. They have a lot of space in their designated storage areas.

  • A quick way to lose weight is to get up early, have a black coffee*, and ride for 2hrs (sub-tempo) on water alone. Then have breakfast, lunch, and a light dinner fairly early in the evening.

It's your fault. I must have subconsciously started training.
Double espresso, forget to pack undies and so add 12k to this morning's ride.
Thanks. What else can I do? :)

  • errr you'll hate this one... no more booze and late night zapiekanka!!

  • Hippy - UTCSCS

it will tell you to eat/drink less and exercise more
