basically the advice from this entire thread is either deal with it, cut off your toes, or drink vodka...

Can you define 'ride like shit' a little more clearly. I've had two bikes with toe overlap both where highly manoeuvreable in traffic, went like the clappers and one was pretty decent on a long run (100 miles).
Toe overlap is one thing, but zero rake forks are another aren't they as far as handling is concerned? Cycle speedway riders don't have to steer much as they just lean round the corner. Saying that, it could be fine to ride, I have never ridden one.
I have owned a flatland BMX that had zero rake and that didn't feel much different than a normal BMX so worth trying to get a test ride. -

with barspins dont forget if you have too much toe overlap you might not be able to barspin, especially as when the bars are half way round there will be even more toe overlap...

I can tell you that I was refering to the geometry of the bike in question, not toe overlap.
toe overlap isn't a problem

RPM that made for an interesting read. However what your man describes as 'squirrelly' and a what is likely to be a danger on a fast descent in traffic is actually an asset.
I don't know if you ever couriered but a fast accelerating highly maneurvable bike is an asset in traffic.
My preference his for a steep head tube, a slightly relaxed seat tube and a short rear triangle, like this
It was a shame the mercian was too small because the geometry on this bike was spot on
- for my style of riding at least

indeed, but you've not ridden a zero rake fork in traffic (?), it'll sneak the front wheel out from under you quick as you can say jack robinson.
I agree that tight track geometry is nippy in town, it's only the speedway bike's fork I don't think will ride well. That's the distinction I'm making
the clue here might be the fact that nobody makes a road or track fork with zero rake..I trust the manufacturers on this.that's not to say he won't be able to use it, I just reckon it'll dump you before it scares you.

I see what you mean about that speedway bike.

I've got a bequested fixed gear bike (Carlton ex-track with front brake) which I am trying to sort out for summer riding. My problem is that even with 22-622 tubs I still have toe overlap with my preffered clipless setting.
My current solution is to set the clips on my shoes quite far forwards, which sin't that great. Possibly solution would be to go from 170 to 160 cranks which should give me an extra cm. I'm also thinking a front 650a/b/c wheel, with a slim 650a being probably the best bet (but also being essentially a fictional wheel size I would have to build up, which I don't know how to do, using wheelchair racing parts).
Any help? -

You could chop off the offending toe(s)?
-

Track bikes have toe overlap, on the track it makes no difference. The real answer is to change your frame and stop with the fucking about.

• #119
new forks or something from one of those schwimm sting rays with the massive massive rake

Got toe overlap on my surly steamroller. Went for slightly shorter crank yet still had some overlap...after 2 weeks got used to it and now compensate instinctively.

erm htfu?

i used to get really pissed off with toe overlap.... but you just forget about it after a while.

Work out which gives you the best clearance - pointing your toes up or pointing your toes down, then do it.
Buy the bike and you will answer your own question young skywalker.
