should I convert this beauty to fixed?
Mart.Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but 52 X 19 is a bit high, especially on such a heavy bike. You don't really want to be pushing up hills do you?

V sorry if you have heard, or even answered this question many times...but.... Whats the best single speed commuting bike upto £500. Have kind of narrowed it down to the likes of SE lager, Charge Plug, Giant Bowery, and Trek Soho S. Am i way off the mark?? Whats the woo har over steel and ally too?
Fuji Tracks are popular and look decent.

Hi All,
Thought I had better introduce myself as I've made a couple of posts & 1 was pretty strong in defence of a friend...don't want to start off on the wrong foot and all...
Been riding around London for the last 12 years on various velos, worked as a messenger off & on for 7. Currently holding 4 bikes but mainly switching between my racer(Cannondale R700, SWEET) & a brompton for those days when i have waaaaaay to much tatt on board, the others are a very silly bad boy Xtra small with the old Killah frame that always puts a grin on my face (that i really need to turn into a SS) & my much beloved Grifter that needs more love than i have time for. Maybe I'll get round to some pics & maintenance one of these days...anyways, Howdy All !

I've been a member for a while and thought 'd better say hello. I ride mainly a geared racer but also have a cheap single speed bike I use at weekends. This group is a great resource and I've learnt a lot reading the various threads. Thanks.

Just joined, been riding fixed in London for a while but had to relocate to Colorado for work. Got a nice Dolan to sell, will put it in the classifieds once I have full permissions on the forum.
Don't want to sell it but it's not much good to me in the mountains of Colorado! -

Fuji Tracks are popular and look decent.
Agreed, my mate bought one, they are cheaper than the competition, look better and seem to be stronger and more durable.

Hello! I am Tomasz from Norwich, just moved back here from university in Brighton where Dave Cole who was on the same product design course (hello dave if you are here) introduced me to fixed gears. I will be building a bike over the next few week and will start a thread in the mechanics section shortly asking for lots and lots of advice!

Welcome Tomasz. Please don't start another thread until you have exhausted other options. The search button is a good place to begin.
As I said, welcome. -

Hi im swede and i live just outside London in sunningdale. Im 17 and am bored of driving already, i love riding bikes and have been riding mtbs from a young age. This is my current ride and a photo of me riding her
im a big fan of streetwear (supreme, huf etc) and a lot of people seem to share that interest. I had a quick go on my sister's boyfriends fixed gear and had such a laugh! Just ordered a 2009 Bianchi Pista which should be here soon. Am looking forward to having fun on a fixed gear
ok, so I may have the fixie bug, I don't know yet. Ive lusted after a fixed gear bike for a while now, just got hold of a perfect low miles peugeot 10 speed, around 1980 vintage, with a view to converting. However, after 2 days owning this old racer, my usual ride, a 1998 rockhopper, chucked me over the bars, so I decided to use the peugeot "as is" geared, for work. Well she rides lovely, easy, takes me back to my youth.Anyhow, now I need convincing that fixed is the way. After reading on here somewhere to try riding a geared bike in one gear to get a feel for the ratio I need to go for, I tried different combinations, settling on front 52 tooth, rear 19, although I did have to push it on the hills.
So come on, I need a push, should I convert this beauty to fixed?
Mart.
