  • , go and have a look at the nursery thread about posting questions which may have been asked before to avoid getting ripped to shreds by the old hands on this forum.

  • Hi all, new to the FG cycling world so hopefully i can learn from this site.

  • Hi, I've been riding fixed for a few years now, well since 1983. I've only just got round to posting, I'll try and put up some pictures of my bikes

  • Please do, and welcome.

  • Well, I'm just saying Hi really.

I have have been on London's roads for about a year now riding various bikes. Currently running a mid 80's Pug converted to SS. I have this stupid obsession with the brand (I have had 3 Peugeot cars at once...in the past) I don't have a clue where it started...

I have always loved riding, although most of it has been XC MTB/Singletrack (back in Oz) sort of stuff so the roads here are an education.

Anyway, not going to bore you. I'll add a pic of my bike at some point...
    Cheers

  • Just wanted to say hi, I'm wanting to get back into road riding after a long time away and looking for road or preferably singlespeed bike. I work in Camden and commute in from Kent , and have to ride a foldy to be allowed on the train (boo!)

I want to start road riding again inthe eveneings for fitness and when I can't use my mtb (Curtis Supercross)-I'm a big fan of steel frames...

    Cheers

  • Hi all, first post.....I don't ride a fixie or single speed as there are to many hills on my commute in from Beckenham and i am to weak but it is Steel (Colnago Master Olympic).

  • Hi all

Been commuting daily in London for about ten years (current route Cricklewood > South Kensington), but only bought my first semi-decent bike a year ago (a Specialized tricross singlespeed - was plodding about on a crappy Raleigh MTB/hybrid from my student days before that). Finally took the plunge to flip the rear and go fixed last weekend (42/16, 70.9"), so fewer than a dozen rides into it... but, wow.

I feel like Ben Kenobi has just pulled down the blaster shield and told me to reach out with my feelings... like my bike has come alive, and revealed itself as a Zen master, revealing my weaknesses, teaching me focus, leaving me puzzles to solve, guiding me to the path... like I did when my dad took off my stabilisers and told me to get on with it.

Yes, I'm coming across like a terrible newbie, but what can I say? I think I've got the bug. Won't be posting a pic unless I start modding, but right now, all I want to do is get back out there and ride it.

    Cheers!

  • Hello all,
Another newbie to join the ranks.
Just got the internet at home so am a net newbie too. This is the first group I have joined and rightly so **as bikes (and fixies especially) are what I spend at least 99.9% of my time thinking and talking about **when I am not actually riding.
I spent nearly 10 years travelling and funded it living in Holland which is a great place for ? things.
I own 3 fixies(too many?/not enough?) one of these fine steeds will be taking me 40 miles from my Essex hometown to Hackney on July 4th to do my 3rd Dunwich Dynamo and I cannot wait.
Nice to be able to introduce myself, happy times ahead.

Whatever happened to the time honoured tradition of thinking about sex every 7 seconds?

  • It makes your palms hairy and impairs the vision.
    Bad for riding.

  • HI, new to the site, based north of London and looking to to build something up. Will be posting in the general section once out of the nursery. Greetings all.

  • Hi, Just signed up, been lurking for a couple of weeks now. I have a singlespeed pompino and i'm just about to build up a fixed from a Ribble road frame. Just got to search for someone who can braze me in some track ends in or around Portsmouth. Not having much luck finding someone who can do it! May have to travel to London. Great site, thanks.

  • used to ride BMX as a kid then got my first 26" XC bike age 12 , been XC ever since then last year i bought my shopper bike , its a cannondale hooligan , its neither fixed or SS , but it has an eccentric BB , so plenty of options for the future

i joined this site because there seem to be a lot of knowledge of the widest variety of cycling possible. my shopper bike only has 20" wheels , so i need higher gearing , looks like its going to have to be approx 54t front ring , which i think is too big for an MTB cranks , so intend to fit some 170mm track cranks , truvativ omnium look nice , so i'll be discussing chainline on a thread near you soon

  • Hello. Im Damian from the Lake District. Work as a manager at Kates Skates and am currently on the hunt for my second simgle speed via the Cycle 2 Work scheme.

  • Howdy all!

Since I went on the women's ride yesterday I thought I'd better introduce myself to everyone else. I've just moved to London last Saturday and am working on getting myself set up here.

I ride a Surly Long-Haul Trucker and an unidentifiable single speed (as it is covered in gaffer tape). No pictures yet, as I'm in the process of moving and cannot find my camera. But I hopefully will soon.

    Lovely to meet you all.

  • Well I've lurked for ages so I thought I'd better join. Hello. :)

  • hi im tony, and i have a couple of interesting bikes (shame they're not fixed gear tho)

  • Hello! I'm a rider from across the water on here looking to make some friends. I'll be in London for 10 days on July 26 and would love to find a friend, a couch, a bike, and some two wheeled tour guides! Hopefully I meet some on here although I'll be on here intermittently as I'm on foot across Europe as of 1 July. I ride a FujiObey I built up myself and I roll with the OPENbicycle boys from Boston, MA. Feel free to say hi! Nice to meet you all!

A little sampling of Boston riding...
