My issue with this whole thing is the fucking circus of it. It even has the extra large BBC news front page. It's a joke. The affect it is having on people is what depresses me.
Agree with you there man, The media give more time and effort to one man than all the cycle deaths in london put together. The people who will go to the streets crying are seriously flawed individuals!
As there is no other news in the world right now we are flooded with Jacko views, opinions, storys, testiments and rumour.. fuck all facts -

Michael Jackson's last request was to be cremated and for his ashes to be put in an etch-a-sketch so kids could still play with him.

Yup. The death of a cyclist, especially in London, is relevant and important. We can both empathize with them (as a fellow traveler), and recognize that the tragedy has pragmatic implications for us.
It's different with MJ.
(However, I agree with Scott that people should think before posting - for the family's sake. But I can also see that taking the piss out of the death of a celebrity in a situation like this in many ways is the only way to keep the reality of the MJ event in perspective.)

[BBC]The internet suffered a number of slowdowns as people the world over rushed to verify accounts of Michael Jackson's death.[/BBC]
BBC being a little smug there, but then after they got DOS'd on 9/11 they tripled their back end infrastructure to stop anything like that happening again.

And I wouldn't throw stones too quickly, it's only a week since you denigrated Jade Goody, who is also dead.
Sorry, but you're wrong there. I never said anything disrespectful about Jade Goody.
If you know different please show me. -

Was she related to Jade Goody? if so, what a shame for her family.

That's pointing out the fact that Dogsballs was talking about 'Jane' Goodie...meaning Jade Goody...not disrespectful in my opinion.
-

Fair enough, I didn't get that. Presumed that there was someone called Jane Goody.

The forum isn't a single conversation: it's a collection of conversations, all happening at the same time. Some of them are grave, some are light-hearted, some are geekily technical. I think most people intuitively get that. I'd be the first to criticise anyone goofing off in a rider down thread, but what happens in a different thread, at the same time, is in my view irrelevant. For what it's worth, I was shocked and saddened by the news of MJ's death, but the negative fall-out on here was entirely predictable, and easily ignored.

oh come on!!!! stop with variation-on-a-theme pedo-from-the-grave crap jokes... If I get another text or email with one of these I'm going to burn anything with a microchip within a 10 mile radius

I bet the cheap jokes are coming from people who are either too young to remember Jackson at his sublime, phenomenal best in the 80s, or are just Daily Mail readers with an obsession with 'peados'.

It's being reported that its suspected suicide now. They are saying it was drugs. They found class a in the bathroom, class b in the bedroom and class 4c in the lounge.

Mike is going to be melted down and made into Lego so that kids will still get a chance to play around with him...

I remember his hits from the 1980s very clearly. I don't read the Daily Mail.
So, sorry James1822, but I don't fit into your neat little stereotyping.

I'm pretty sure most of you don't know the Holborn victim any better than you knew Michael Jackson...and yet because he's a public figure it's suddenly acceptable to laugh at his death and make jokes.
I would advise you not to open the Thatcher's Dead! thread when it appears.
on the money!
