I think the Daily Mail would be more on the side of the sham sanctimony, personally.

I was around in the 80s and don't recall anything sublime or phenomenal about him. Just another run of the mill popstar.
I find that hard to believe, he was THE KING OF POP!
Some of my earliest memoraries are dacing around in my parent's living room listening to MJ's tunes.

How old were you in 1982 Pickle? ;)

How can he be the King of Pop when he hasn't made a decent record for over 20 years.

What's the King of England done in the last 20 years? :)
-
• #408
What has any other pop artist done in the last 20 years?
-

Some of my earliest memories were of walking out of the room because someone was playing MJs tunes. I really find nothing remarkable about his music at all.

All down to personal preference then. . .if you didn't like his music thats your choice.
But for me he was a bit of a legend. -

He was the first icon of the MTV generation, he wrote the rules for pop videos, till this day around the world people are still doing the thriller zombie dance.
And that is just in my life time, he made 15 years of music before i was even born.

Sure, but he also wrote "Heal the World"
-

He was definitely a legend, but I could never look at his face or his dacing. Snappy tunes though, mostly the older ones really.

exacerly
Rubbish! Mainstream pop fodder.

Yeah he did and its a shit song, but not everyone is perfect.
He also touched children, i'm not defending the guy but lets at least recognise his achievements. -

Some of my earliest memories were of being touched by MJ.

So how come Gary Glitter is pilloried by the mainstream press for touching up two Thai girls (who by all acounts weren't actually far off being 16 anyway) and yet Jacko is canonised?
Because Rock n Roll Part II is *infinitely *better than Jackos output over the last 20 or so years IMNSHO
And judging by the rolling 'breaking news' on Sky all other World events have been cancelled - do we really have to go through all of this every time someone fucking snuffs it?!

Well GG was found guilty in court and did time, he also showed no remorse for what he'd done. Jackson was found not guilty (or paid everyone off).

MJ was the key to jackson 5 selling millions of records in the 70's. he was big b4 thriller etc in 80's, but got bigger and weirder.

Micheal Jacksons girlfriend is said to be devastated. First her parents leave her in Portugal, and now this happens . . .
I was around in the 80s and don't recall anything sublime or phenomenal about him. Just another run of the mill popstar.
