  • Even an orang-utan alike like me doesn't need a 140 mm stem. Did the previous owner's knuckles scrape the ground as he walked?

    Hey, watch it!
    I need 140s (on a 585mm t/t road or a 570mm t/t track bike)...
What stem is it and is it for sale ?

  • i can't really find a hell of a lot of info them, the previous owner was very helpful though, he even gave me all the christmas cards he has been receiving from them since '82 when he got it.

he's told them that it has moved on to me now, so i look forward to my first christmas card!

i shouldn't think you would want more info than whats on this website,,, but let me know

    sorry if i missed something.

  • almost there my major taylor tribute / guvnor / path racer. cones in the rear wheel need adjusting and front brake tweeking. with hide food and friction the brooks b17 saddle should gain a nice rosey patina.
many thanks to peter carver and his private cycle jumble

That's looking very nice Gerald. What are you planning on using it for?

I'm reading a book about Major Taylor at the moment, it's a fascinating read.

  • Just picked up a Somec frame which I'm putting together for my round town fixed. I love Somec.

Pics to follow when it arrives.

  • coppiThat- nice build, bet its very comfy to ride with those fatty tyres on there.w hat frame did you use there?

  • [cite]wikipedia[/cite]

"I cannot go on with safety, for there is a man chasing me around the ring with a knife in his hand." Said allegedly under the influence of nitroglycerin, a popular performance enhancer at the time.

    Ha! :)

  • Hi Clever Pun,

    That's a tasty bit'o'bike!

As you have no rear brake, have you thought about replacing the left (rear) brake lever with a wee finger brake?

Ths finish of the bike would look far more classic. What do you think?

  • What a difference a colour makes.

  • Very coppiThat

    Good works tilover, wayno, spagbolognese^^^

Oh my goodness. The builder of this:

All that leather and shellaced tape is pretty damned amazing, and the care and detail over rack and build is really mindblowing, ditto the homestyle headbadge.(I think jonny's concerns about the OTT-ness of all the leather on the tubes only shows his love for the practical, honest, undulating kind of cycling). I think it's a beatiful thing ... almost too nice. (Looks like you've been at Alex Singer's shop, n'est pas? I was drooling over images from there the other day.) Very like some of the things frestripe have been involved in over the last few years (seem to like grey, too), as well as Rivendell, Velo Orange et al. Well done, toofsy.

  • Definitely an improvement. Personally I think Celeste only works on the old steel Bianchi frames

Where do you get those tyres.

    ahhh.

  • Where do you get those tyres.

Look like the Schwalbe ones, they come standard on the Guv'nor.

  • They're described as 28" - is this just oldy worldy ways of calling them 700c? I've seen a few bikes described with having 28" wheels when they're just 700c, which is odd.

  • Look like the Schwalbe ones, they come standard on the Guv'nor.

They are indeed but where do you get them thats the quetion tried to find them in the past but never found them.

  • Thanks for the comments...The tires are Schawble Delta Cruize found in Amsterdam in 700X35C, be careful with the track forks...it's really wide. Just after bought them I seem an amazing new brown but only in 28"(635 vs 622). For the headbadge it's really easy to do it with PVC tube...

well done, but you should have the seatpost clamp facing backwards.

  • In fact under the size 28" there is two diameters : 622 and 635, only 622 match with 700C.
    Only in dutch...

just thought it would be a nice bike to ride for flat journeys. its fixed with a single rod pull lever.

coppiThat- nice build, bet its very comfy to ride with those fatty tyres on there. what frame did you use there?

    like or like
there is something of a transfer on the headtube but its hard to read. looking at the seat stays and how they join the seat tube this frame is very typical of frames you can find on the bay described as 30's frames. the front forks have holes rather than dropouts.

it took me a little while to find them but it was good to find the and know they have more. they are the exact ones that are on the pashley guvnor.
schwable delta cruiser 28 x 1 1/2 cream ( also available in black)
note they are not cream all the way through like tyres of old so at some point the black is going to show through,,, worth noting.

i purchassed them from spa cycles £25.00 for a pair delivered

spacycles dot co dot uk tel: 01four23 887003

    hope that helps someone.

    sorry if i missed something.

  • very nice work!

  • I'm building up this GTB:

Will add: Thomson seatpost, white turbo saddle, miche cranks, some nice drop bars (maybe noodle?)
