@ purple_mj - there was a surreptitious headwind on the way out of town that ground me down a bit, but it was pleasant enough on the return leg back down Beddlestead Lane @ 30+mph :)
Where were you?
Yeah, very excited about 'the project'...
@ Sam - it was actually where I'd meant to go the other week, when hypothermia got the better of me; the area south of Woldingham; left at the top of Chalk Pit, then first left, then second left for an amazing descent over the motorway and the A22; there was a weird little hump in the road that nearly caught me out - I had to hastily let go of the brakes and get my weight back at one point as I was nearly catapulted over the bars (I want to climb up this road next time).
The climb up from Bletchingly to Caterham wasn't half as bad as I remembered, although last time I went up was on a 67" gear, and I thought something in my calves was going to snap.
Then I explored a bit around Warlingham (near a golf course) which was pleasant enough.
The top section of Succombs Hill (after the initial easy 20% section at the bottom) is fucking mental. Very short, but a real front wheel lifter. Riding back up Annerly to Crystal Palace, even with jaded legs, seemed like a total piece of flatland piss by comparison.
To be honest, parts of the route would make an epic nightride, even without the views, but it would be strictly for the freewheels. Meanwhile, I've got a vague plan to explore North of London a bit for a new TNRC route...

Is there a meeting point agreed for the ride out on Tuesday? Would prefer meeting around Richmond Park but as always will be prepared to ride out on my own as things could change last minute at work. Might ride it geared this time around, it's recovery week for me.

I think we need to agree on a time to depart from Richmond Park - meet at the café or Roehampton Gate or something.
Haven't really thought about the route - I think someone mentioned something earlier in the thread. I just want to follow a local wheel...

I think it was MrSmyth talking in detail about the route but I am not sure if he committed already.
@ MrSmyth are you in or could possibly map the suggested ride? -
• #1531
I'll be riding out from Waterloo. I was planning on doing the Embankment on the north side of the Thames to Chelsea, then down through Parsons Green to Putney, across Putney Bridge and then into RP. I think this'll be the quickest route at 1730-1800 on a weekday. From RP I was going to go through Kingston, over the Thames to Hampton Wick, then along past Hampton Court and out through Esher to Cobham then on to Effingham. I reckon it's a 2 hour ride at that time of day.

this is my preferred route to get to effingham

@ andyp - what time are you leaving Waterloo (I can't be bothered doing the math (sic (sick))?
-
• #1543
I think the train folk won't be at Effingham until just after 8. So was going to leave around 1745.
I can meet you on the north side of Blackfriars Bridge if you want?

• #1544
On the pavement by the 'ramp' down?

Guy, do you want this Sora rear mech? BNIB (bought it about 7 years ago), it does need jockey wheels though.
As I'll be driving over to Effingham, I can leave it in the car until the end of the ride.
FOC.

Maybe I could drive around as a support vehicle in Sam's car?
i might come along to this.
put my name down for it anyway as a maybe.
I'm a little concerned i'm not fit enough, but, there is no other way to find out other than to go and have a go.
