  • Looks like I'm out I'm afraid guys.

Work is conspiring to not let me leave early and I do not want to lock my road bike up in the garage downstairs.

  • Maybe I could drive around as a support vehicle in Sam's car?

HTFU! It's only 30-odd miles and you'll have had 48 hours recovery since Sunday.

What are you, man or blouse?

  • I'll take the blouse and run with it.

  • It's alright, hippy reckons I'm a blouse so you've company.

  • he he

  • It's alright, hippy reckons I'm a blouse so you've company.

A skinny blouse too.. the worst kind. ;)

  • Guy, do you want this Sora rear mech? BNIB (bought it about 7 years ago), it does need jockey wheels though.

As I'll be driving over to Effingham, I can leave it in the car until the end of the ride.

    FOC.

yep. I've been ill all weekend and not managed to do anything, but should be ready f
    or tomorrow

    Cheers

  • I think the train folk won't be at Effingham until just after 8. So was going to leave around 1745.

I can meet you on the north side of Blackfriars Bridge if you want?

I am pretty sure I can make it by 5:50/6pm sharp will meet you on the down ramp. (if not there carry on and I will see you at Effingham) but will do my best as I am not sure about West london ive heard its even worse than the North side of town...

It's already in the car, hope you're feeling better!

  • cheers Sam. Hopefully I will, but we'll see when I get up tomorrow. I keep feeling like I'm going to pass out every time I stand up. which would not be ideal for riding, I don't think...

  • just stay sat down on the climbs then guy and you'll be fine ;) hope you can make it mate

  • looking forward to this. still 50:50 on riding out but won't sweat it either way. see you ls & gs out there on the blacktop.

  • I think I'm going to pick up the train at Clapham Junction at 19:42. Anyone else?

Greasy, are you riding or out or shall we roll over together from White City?

  • @plagiarist - is there anyway you can make this EmilĂ©? It's been ages since I rode with you and you need as many miles as possible before your summer epics...

  • Will ride out solo, see you all in Effingham

We'll keep an eye out for you at Blackfriars, Martin. It'll be good to ride out with you.

  • How hard will this be for me to attend? I've been telling myself to get more involved in this forum and today I have a day off so not up to much.

I ride fixed, my geared bike got ripped off a while ago and I haven't seen any need to replace it.

So, fixed, 20mi a day, commute, all over London as I work a different area every day so no stranger to the odd hill. Up until last week I rode 84" but have since replaced the chainring so I'm now at 69"....

  • Tonight's route is around 35 miles if you get the train to and from Effingham junction. There are 5 hills on the route none of which is particularly steep but are still a challenge, even for experienced cyclists.

If you've good lights and are prepared to ride hard when needed then I'm sure you'll be fine. I think clintsmoker identified a couple of bail out points which, if you are finding it tough, mean you can shorten the ride and head home.

  • I have a set of 5LED CatEye "be seen" lights, but I know somewhere I have an old CatEye Halo headlamp, just gotta dig it out and find some AA's I guess. I'm looking at the route now...

  • @ citygent - if you want to get to Effingham Junction without too much hassle, you need to find the London costume shop near Festive Road, try on the cycling outfit in the changing room, and then go out the back door that the shopkeeper will show you...

  • yeah but I'm getting the train, especially as the cycling outfit consists of unwashed lycra and acrylic.

plus the shopkeeper is well pissed off I keep going in there, trying shit on, tripping out in the cupboard for a few minutes, and never buying anything.

  • @citygent - it'll be light for most of this evening's ride so lights aren't as important as they are at other times of the year.

    @bmmf - that takes me back. :-)

  • I'm watching torrents of that shit on a daily basis at the moment. Tynan loves it.

  • I have them on doovdĂ©, showing them to the gf (she's italian) as an education on proper childrens tv.

and speaking of the gf, she's the reason i'm turning up with a lid. please resist the urge to be a patronising dickhead obsessed with playing knock-knock.

  • Could someone please confirm the time that the train will arrive from London please. I would normally do it but I'm (surprisingly) busy at work for once.

Just need to work out what time I leave my house in the car, that's all.

    Cheers!
