did you find it hard to change your cog?
ive got the lockring off but the cog wont budge!

Do you have a chainwhip- and if so is it the correct one for the chain- i.e. you are not using a 3/32 whip on a 1/8 chain?
-
• #1404
i did not have a chain whip, i first tryed riding it and locking up the back wheel, but it just skidded, then i tryed a hammer!

• #1405
^^ @Pedz, you've got to change the saddle, it's the worst thing on the bike and hence the first thing I changed.
@Wallie, I had the same trouble with mine (as have lots of people). I broke a chain whip as well as cutting up my hands etc. Then I used reverse rotafix (search on here or google) and it came loose in a second. I cursed myself for not doing it in the first place, I'll never use a chain whip again.

I'd prefer to use a chainwhip personally- I think rotafixing is for when you don't have access to a chainwhip/emergency use.
The design of the chainwhip can make a big difference that said- some are better than others.
-
• #1407
^^ Why? Rotafix doesn't do any damage if you wrap the bits of frame in contact with chain in an old t-shirt. Unless anyone knows otherwise?
Getting a stubborn sproket off with even a very good chain whip can still be a struggle whereas Rotafix is just so easy.

Yeah I snapped a link on my chain tool trying to get it off, took it to a bike shop and it took two blokes a big chain tool and a pole to get it off.

Yeah think it' will have to go soon as it's started to rip already.
Not found it too bad to ride on but I only ride 5 miles each way to work. -

I'd like to build from scratch, but cant ignore the 50% off the cycle scheme gets you + you pay it off over 12 months.. Bonus.
I have to use Evans... Was thinking
Fuji Track
Brooks Swallow
Shimano 105
Cane Creek Lever
Better tyres (Armadillos??)
18t cassette to commute..Plus I like the look of some soma major taylor bars with black tape.. but need to shop elsewhere..
Any thoughts? - will end up costing about 280 all in (cash over 12 months..). Not sure I can get a better deal from scratch, and I can upgrade from there.... (what else should I consider)
Other than the brooks, sounds good, will be nice to see a fuji track with drops, very novel.
For the money it's the best bike out there, go mad.

Ok, first off, I am NOT serious about the frontwheel. It "belongs" to another bike I have but by the time I took the picture, the actual front wheel of the Fuji has not been there yet :)

• #1411
Oh right and I have replaced the saddle, pedals and removed the Fuji emblem lately :)

hah, brilliant. Tiny stem though?
I like that paint, prefer the 09 to the 08.

The stem's great for polo (that's what I got the bike for)... eventhough I have to get used to the very flat steering-angle. (hope that's the right term for it he he)
Yep the paint is much better now but I might strip it off...

Mine is still pretty standard but no doubt I'll be tempted to buy new bits soon.

............... and an 18t cog

Here we go again! After staring at my chainline for ages then measuring it, then staring at it again, I've worked out it's about 5mm out, but doesn't look it. Anyways, ordered the appropriate BB.

• #1417
Would you like to borrow my Vernier calipers just to make sure?
-
• #1418
I got a set of digital ones but the batt died. measure using a steel rule and t'internet. DuraAce HB7600 with a DA cog gives a chainline of 42mm, my Truvativ Touro Track cranks with 118mm BB give a chainline about 49mm, ergo, ordered a 108mm BB. Plenty of clearance on the chainstay to move the ring in a bit.
Worked out how I cocked up! Originally I had a cup and cone BB from an old 10 speed. It originally gave me a crap chainline so I flipped the axle (assymetrical) and it ran fine. When it came to swapping out for a cartridge BB I forgot about flipping the axle and just measured it's length and bought like for like.
Still don't know why a 5mm difference isn't that visible. Anywho

Is that because every opinion that you have so far expressed is either patronising, argumentative or wrong, or all three?

would i be correct in thinking the cheapest track is now £400 from evans?
-
• #1424
I just bought an 09 Track please post more 09 bikes up want some inspiration!!
Does anyone know if it is possible to remove the 'track' graphic from the tobtube? Looks really tacky imo might just tape it up with electrical tape, this wont damage the lacquer or paint will it?
