  • back in london at 10:25pm!!!??? unheard of.

Sam pulls off a brilliant ride. just the right combination of distance, hills , technical downhills, etc for the TNRC. i think this will please a lot of people in the coming months. great thanks and gratitude to you for all your hard work my friend.
As ever a joy to see the group rolling through the countryside at yet another decent pace. Always a pleasure to see dropout but never more so than a surprise guest slot when all and sundry seemed to be getting injured etc.
tex- a full day at the track and a monster IOW obviously took its toll. rest up big fella and see you soon.
Shoots - so unlucky mate but you are right to take it easy. missed you out there.
andy, des, gav, martin, just how much more respect can be earned out there ? great to see all of you again.
Jonny - showed us what it was all about up the big one and shot to fame at the end.
bmmf - wife's cheesy flaps were as good as you promised and not a hint of tuna that can so often ruin this delicate dish ;)

  • Seriously fine evening as ever - cheers all. Brilliantly put together route Sam, hedge trimming is way beyond the call of duty - the bar gets raised again. Nice spin back west with you Dropout. A fine week so far - now its just down to Barca to ruin fat Frank's.

  • glad you had a good ride! gutted I had to miss it...

  • ^ I'll second that emotion right here...
I sat at home watching a fuck boring game of "football", thinking... what exactly is it that I miss by not going out with the TNRC? Absolutely Sweet F.A. Very, very frustrating evening.
R well... I'll do it nxt time Sam... sounds like a winner... an award-winner!

  • Another great ride, hard and fast thanks Sam for all the work prepping this one, twas most enjoyable.
An honour to have BMMF along in his birthday suit...
    See you all in 2.

  • We decided on the train back that he should be the first recipient of the Hugo Koblet Pedaller of Charm award. Wear it with pride Sam, it was well earned.

I didn't realise I had a comb and some splash on cologne in my pockets.....

Glad to hear everyone enjoyed themselves. I had a great time, thanks all for making the night what it was, and thanks to Jonny for hanging around St Mary Cray on purpose just so I wasn't on my own for half an hour. Oh how I loved all the unhappy Arsenal fans faces on the train home!

I agree with the pub stop, if we do the route again we should stop either in Farlingham (where I tried to send BMMF the wrong way), or at the first pub on the left we come to after the climb up and back over the motorway.

I cannot make the next one as I'm on holiday, but hopefully I'll be back in time for the next TNRC (Surrey Hills?).

As for a repeat of the Kent route, I'm happy to devise a different route for next time that starts from Sevenoaks if anyone fancies some different roads. Still only about half an hour away from town, but it'll cost a couple of quid more to get to. Why, we could even take in Yorks Hill on that one...

  • Why, we could even take in Yorks Hill on that one...

    hehe.. good luck with that
What gearing are you planing to ride therefor? surely nothing above 65 GI?!?

  • No, 34 x 26!

  • No, 55x11 :p

  • Ooh, Ooh...
    When's the nxt one ?
    Ooh Ooh...
    Is it Roydon ?
    C'mon...
    Post it up already

    (neck's better... thanks)

  • I heard it's Roydon on the 19th. If so, I ain't gettin' on no train, fool.

  • Shame, I would have liked to do the Roydon course again, but can't make the 19th owing to a meeting. I hope to find a free Tuesday again soon! Have fun all.

  • Yep ls & gs. Roydon Route. 19 May 2009 AD.

  • This looks fantastic, haven't done a forum ride since a sunny london to cambridge last summer. Before I sign my soul away, do I need full on battery pack lights? I imagine my current best bet of two cateye opticubes with fresh batteries won't cut it...

jonny's going all capitals, Texas is getting all familiar; WTF is this?

@nat - things like the Hope Vision 1 or Exposure Joystick are very popular. If 2 opticubes can put out around 100 lumens between them, you might be alright.

I've had no problems with a Hope Vision 1 on the bars (usually on medium, but on high for downhills if I'm at the front), and an LED torch on my helmet. Most just have a bar light.

As they're only £11, and I want a spare, I've ordered another LED torch which I'm going to stick on my bar as well (with a homemade inner tube mount) for some extra flood in the foreground...

... but it's overkill really. I could see where I'm going just by the scintillating dazzle of my intellect.

nat - you should see the red light that shines out of his ass!! very illuminating! just ride behind BMMF
(Seriously nat - invest in a decent night light for safety's sake i'm sure lots of regulars will be happy to promote their lights. unfortunately the one i use , cateye rechargeable, has a shit mount so don't buy it)

Got the day off after for college work, so we're all go.

Sounds like a good ride just gone. How did you manage to get back so early; saving the punctures for the train ride back or something? And how was the home cooking?

And I still need to say happy birthday to BMMF. Had tried at work, but just noticed my posts didn't work..

I could smell where I'm going just by the scintillating razzle of my cheese flaps.
