  • 48/18 but i`m spinning out at 30 mph plus racing for the village signs on the club run.northants

  • Depending how I feel:
48:18 normally for longer or hillier rides.
48:17 for pootling about town and medium length rides.
48:15 for something a bit harder.

  • respect to that guy on the Bob Jackson yesterday, did IoW ride on 80".

  • 75" fixed is perfect all round for me until Godzilla legs have fully developed,
    72" for birdy folder/ pub bike/
    55" for trail mtb

  • 52:18
    it's too high

  • 49x19 in london is good

  • 52:18
    it's too high

its fine when i was riding my mates bike . . . but really slow at start then fast in the long run . . .

lookin to change it to 52-18 but now im jus riding a 47-18

  • 53:19 for 'flat' Bristol and 53:20 for 'hilly' Cornwall- maybe its psychological but going from 73.3 to 69.6 GI makes all the difference........

  • 46x14 atm

  • On Sat I swapped out 48/15 with 48/17 for my fuji. Not a massive change but I have spent the last two days riding around with a big grin on my face accelerating away from lights without feeling like my legs are going to explode. I also feel much more in control of the bike especially when it comes to (skid) stopping.

Having said that, riding 48/15 for 5 months has done wonders for my leg strength!

  • Actually that is what I would consider a massive change. Those two teeth on the cog are worth 10".
    Still probably too high.

It's fine, but I think when I get a new rear wheel sorted I'll get a 20 for the fixed cog
Make them pesky hills a little easier

And yeah, its faaast as well

Yeah it certainly feels like a massive change when out on the bike, 48/15 was getting a bit tedious on long hills.

My ratio experiment is not over yet but I'll see how this new gear feels after a week.

BTW when removing the old sproket the reverse rotafix trick worked a treat. This was after snapping a brand new halfords chainwip.. anoyingly my parktools was out on loan.

  • Trying out a new gear ratio tomorrow. After running roughly 70GI for a few weeks now it's time to get back in shape.

fuck the trackies, this is the way to race dem' streets.
oh and the ambidextrous skidder as me gots no brakes :)

  • and fuck your knees trying to stop or skid...
hope you've got a brake on the go

  • 70 up to 99!? You'll be fucked

  • I'm on 49/16 which is 80.5GI, can't skid when going fast but the front brake is there for any emergencies. I really like the speed I can pick up and the uphill battles, thank god there isn't many hills between east and west London.

I'll try out 49/17 for 75.7GI soon, but I'm only getting 35 miles in a week at the moment due to study.

:) i was riding a fair 78.8 for the last six months before that

Just had a little spin, scary as, but the speed is amazing

  • Did you try Highgate hill on that CheBeef ?

I did it on a 47/16 Tuesday (77.2 GI), and it was quite tough on the lactic acid tolerance. 80.5GI would be interesting..

    are u riding brakeless ?

  • are u riding brakeless ?

well, i got my chain drive to stop me when i pedal backwards

  • I hope that was a joke?

You're knees'll be in agony for weeks mate

  • Just went from 76 gi to 70 and think this is sweeet as at minute.

75 gi was good for the legs and may jump back up to it when i get a brake.

  • 70's spot on for London, plus I've only got 22" legs

  • 48/17, love the look of a big chainring and plenty skidpatches too
