Which Saddle?

  • slr's and toupe's are my fav's...right about the fragility of the toupe tho

  • Thought i'd drag this up as i've had a feverish saddle-testing blitz over the last week. Obviously, this is subjective, but thought i'd share my findings whilst i was trying to improve on the comfort of my Charge spoon:

    1.) Selle Italia SLR XP:
Hard to dial in and ok when set up, but too much gooch pressure for me

    2.) Specialized Alias (143):
Fucking gash and looks like shit as well.

    3.) Fizik Arione:
Quite comfy and easy to set up, but again too much perinium pummelling.

4.) Selle Italia Flite Gel Flow
Not bad... Looks sweet, good build quality and feels good for the first 20miles.

5.) Selle Italia Max Flite Gel Flow
Sold... Like a buxom wench lapping at my undercarriage.

    Update:

5.) Selle Italia Max Flite Gel Flow
I was a bit quick on the draw here. I get fidgety after 30miles and think i can improve on it... the wench started using too much teeth.

    6.) Koobi Xenon
Has a cut out all the way to the end of the nose so good pressure relief in all positions. Getting on well with it and best so far, but padding is quite firm.

  • my update: I did 55 miles on the Planet X Superlight yesterday with no problems whatsoever.

  • Sorry pal, this forum is for London, Ontario only!

    +1

what size toupe do you use, 130 or 143? I sat on one of those sit bone measuring things, and ended up as a 143, which was pretty confortable. Thinking about the planet x as well.

  • What does this Planet X seat look like?

  • justfnckinggoogleit.

everyones arse is different, it is pointless suggesting a saddle, you have to try and try until you find one that fits you.

  • Being lazy innit.

  • similar to this one, innit?

  • exactly, although its not as flat profile as arione. slight curve to it similar to toupe.

  • toupe

  • cheers rik

143, i'm a big bastard at 6'4"....height not arse width!

  • i persisted with arione's for a while, god knows why.

  • so what about these Koobi Xenon's?
    anyone else used em?

  • Broker's borrowing one of mine at present and texted me last night to say he's ordering an Enduro (Xenon with more padding, essentially - the Xenon's padding is very thin and firm). Accept no substitutes, say I.

  • just tryed a koobi Xenon, only did 40k....so far so good.

i need to adjust its position a little differently to my toupe, but felt great

  • I got reaally used to VETTA. They cost nothing on the bay, look nice, and comfy as hell(turbo).
    My down says yes!

  • ...or just the Arione.

  • borrowed a Fizik Arione after hearing good things about them. it felt real good for about an hour after tilting the nose up a bit, but after that i started to get a really horrible ache when i slid right to the back of the saddle for climbing. not a fan.

this was on my geared bike. i reckon i would get on fine with it on my fixed becuase i dont do any real climbing on it, and dont ride for hours at a time.

  • It's just arses for courses isn't it?

anyhow, I find my Brooks Swift to be a bit uncomfortable, even after 4 months, it's simply the shape of the saddle that I couldn't get used to, I find myself preferring the B17 more.

From the line-up, I can see two different shape, the Brooks Team Pro and the Swift are what appear to be identical in shape, and the Brooks B17 (Narrow) is identical to the Swallow (as we all know!).

so I realise that if one doesn't prefer the Swallow, they'd probably prefer the Swift, but then again, everyone's arses are different.

  • I'm tempted to get one of these for XC rig. I'm not a fan of padding (love the Storika), and this seems to be the right shape.

  • have just put a concor supercorsa on mine and it is lovely.. can't recommend it enough :)
got it at Cavendish - apparently they've got a few in - but, word to the wise, they're a tenner cheaper at Shop14.

My bashed up ancient supercorsa is the comfiest saddle I've ever had.

  • Does anyone here know when this is due out? Looks nice!
