  • Yeah, understanding-what-float-means FAIL on my part.

  • :)

  • Clive, ouch! Hope you heal quickly and that elbow doesn't give you any ongoing problems.

  • Ouch! Heal quick Cliveo...

  • Yeah, understanding-what-float-means FAIL on my part.

Were you looking for those ideal TT conditions?

  • Hope you heal up soon man, that looks really painful. I've been thinking about this kind of situation more recently and how do you know when cleats are worn to a point that needs replacing?

I've been using my shimano spds for about 3 and a half years and have recently noticed that the left is looser to click in and out of than the right - but I don't know when it gets loose to a level that needs replacing.

  • @ Oliver - I'd rep you if we hadn't agreed to scrap all that shit.

@t-4003 - A visual inspection should be enough. Is your left side your primary foot down, hence the accelerated wear? Anyway, those Shimano cleats are tough as old boots. Even hippy's using decade old sets, which is about 25 years' use in human years.

I com people all the time. I find it all the more fun now that no-one is paying attention to it any more.

  • dude, i got some awesome south african painkillers that really shouldn`t be allowed...
    just shout if u require.

  • that elbow looks like a gunshot wound ! eek !

atacs are made of soft bronze, why is that ?
steel would be much better, tungsten even more.

  • Thank you all for your good wishes. I am recovering at a remarkable pace. Full rest has been a very good idea. The bruising is now starting to show. Quite spectacular although it is located in such places that I will not ask my daughter to photograph for your aesthetic enjoyment. Curiously, although the impact was to my side and rear and all the swelling and pain is to the side and rear of my left buttock, the initial evident bruising is to the front and in a very odd pattern.

I will try a short ride on Monday with new cleats. Mrs O has decided that I need new Sidis which is nice but has said that I must not ride fast in future. She points out sternly that I am old and with responsibilities. Mrs O does not appreciate that going fast is something for which I may strive but do not often achieve.

When the bruising moves to the rear, I will see if I can persuade Mrs O to take a snap for your amusement.

Oh, and Sam. I tried not shaving for the first two days of rest but it was no good. Horrid and scratchy. No beard. And James, I dress to use my computer. After all, the Government are watching....

  • lol

Glad to hear the recovery is going Ok.

  • clive

your computer use was discussed at length after the xmas critical mass

    we know the truth

  • good to hear your doing so well clive, and that mrs o is being so comforting to you...

get the new sidi's man, you'll feel like a new cyclist and then you can sneakily try to go fast, and when this isn't achieved blame the shoes..

  • Forget Sidis Clive, a man of your means should be looking at buying a pair of these;

They are worth an extra 8-10 watts of power allegedly.

  • "My name is Bont. Clive Bont."

  • Feel better soon mister, we need more oldengers on the road.

These are the shoes that you get specially moulded to your feet right? They sound amazing

  • These are the shoes that you get specially moulded to your feet right? They sound amazing

The do standard or custom shoes. The standard ones can be heat moulded to your feet and fit 90% of people, the custom ones will be made specifically for you.

    I'm pondering a pair.

  • Three months after my accident, my elbow is as healed as it will be. A scar and an indent remain.

I am, however, concerned about my left buttock. The one that was described by one doctor as "spectacular". It is still swollen although painless. It feels as though there is a sack of fluid on my hip. If I touch it, it ripples in a horrid sort of way. I feel no inconvenience from it, no pain but it does spoil the aesthetics of my otherwise athletic (ho hum) frame.

The swelling has not stopped me cycling. I have covered hundreds, probably thousands, of miles in the last three months. I am concerned though that the swelling has not subsided as I thought it might. Should I be worried? How long do these things take to go down? Is there anything I ought to be doing? Could a doctor help? Anyone got any suggestions?

    Thank you.

  • I've got hypertrophic scarring on my hip from an injury sustained about 5 years ago (great for predicting rainfall), but your problem sounds different.

Personally, I'd get it checked out by a health professional. Seemingly innocuous sacks of fluid can develop into all kinds of horrible shit...

  • I am not sure what help this could be but, my father still has a fluid sack below his left knee from a motorcycle accident he was in nearly 40 years ago. It is painless and has no effects on his movement, it just looks disgusting.

  • Clive - as useful as this forum is, I think medical issues are best dealt with by visiting your GP. Especially when buttocks are involved.
