Terrible news, and like everyone else, I'm just wondering how many more people will have to lose their lives before something is done. HGVs should not be on the road in central London at all -- this is an ancient city in terms of road layout, it's not suitable for bendy buses or any other large vehicles.
I cycled back home along the A202 / A2 from Deptford Bridge towards Vauxhall, and two enormous container lorries were trying to keep up with each other, and they thundered past me and it was horrible.
My thoughts and prayers with are with the victim and family.

bendy buses... another hideous hazard. Was almost caught between two- each coming in the opposite direction - in Oxford Street yesterday. Missed them by feet. Yikes

This is horrible. Either of the deaths could have been my girlfriend, both are on routes she takes regularly. It was the worst feeling in the world waiting for her to answer the phone (which she did).
I came far closer to knowing how the loved ones of those who die on the roads feel than I ever want to again. My thoughts are with them today. Awful.

thats another thing that annoys me. generally its two company white vans in the morning doing the same thing. i always try to split them up at traffic lights by getting between them and then dither for as long as i can when the lights change pretending to not be able to get my toe clip in. in the corner of my eye i can always see the red top newspaper on the dashboard and him hunched over the steering wheel shouting and spitting at the windscreen. they are so dangerous and they dont seem to be aware of any other than trying to sit on their mates bumper.

Horrible news, definitely, but I do find it a bit strange that so many people seem to want to put some kind of 'blame' on the lorry driver, or on lorries in general. This is a tragedy for the driver too!I think the signs on the lorries are a very good thing, because too many cyclists are not aware that a lorry driver just can't see you when you're next to him. Over here (in Holland, I'm Dutch) we get these accidents too and that has not only resulted in lorries having a compulsory dead-angle-mirror, but also in drivers going to schools to explain to children how dangerous it is to pass a lorry and that you should always avoid being caught between a lorry or bus and the kerb. I personally would never, ever pass a lorry on the right hand side (or on the left in England), because I know the driver won't be able to see me.
I don't want to put any blame on the girl who died here, it's too big a tragedy, but when I was cycling in London some time ago I did notice that a lot of people dress up in reflective clothing and then ride in a way I would never do here, in a country where drivers are only too aware of cyclists on the road. What happened is terrible, but don't blame lorries.

sadly I do blame lorries.

It's Oxford Street after all, the road is narrower than it was due to the widening of the pavement, best advice? take a different route, it's much quicker with less risk of peds appearing.
me and my missus cycle down there yesterday, she decided to walk with the bike instead than being sandwiched by thousand of buses getting overtaking by peds.

So what you're actually saying is that you can ride any way you want and the rest of the world has to watch out for you. You're right, that's sad.

Not the time and place for it, we don't know whether the person under took, or the lorry cut in/didn't indicate.
I think we can all agree it's a tragedy

Can I suggest that unless you actually saw what happened that everyone refrains from jumping to conclusions about what the exact circumstances of the collision where?
It's not helpful.
c'mon everyone.......it's not the place for this.

It may be possible, that the accident victim's family hears about this forum, and as before, may
get relief from expressions of sorrow here. With that in mind, *for these types of threads only*,
maybe we just be conscious that non-cyclists, and some very sad friends and family will read our comments. -

With the 2 fatalities so close together E+C and Goswell, and left-turning trucks involved in both -
how do/can we react?I hope I'm not out of place with my suggestion....though such discussion is best left for a later date

| got a text about this just a few minutes after the coach I was travelling on passed the Eilidh memorial in Notting Hill. I don't know what to say; your heart bleeds for another family ripped apart and your head says something must be done. But what? Whatever that something is, I don't know but I'd rather leave it for another day.

Well said dubdub.
This is such a sad thing to happen. I've lived in and around that area for years and years, the junction is a nightmare. RIP and heart felt condolences to everyone involved.
There are so many backstreets in that area to take instead. If you have a bad junction on your commute, take some time one night and ride around the area a bit I bet you'll find a better route.
