Re: hilarystone, yep I waited about a month for him to send me some cranks. He* eventually* replied to my messages saying something about his mother being ill. Which is either understandable, or just a plainly horrible excuse to use. I assumed the former, at the time...

maaaaaaaaan I hate slow ebayers. When I sell, as soon the cash is here I'm at post office sending the stuff. As soon as I win an auction, I've paid by paypal within 30min..sometimes people take the piss, you send some cash and then you have to wait for a box, then wait for an email....where has customer service gone.....rant rant

hassanr, i had almost exactly the same experience with hilary stone.
the listing came off as all honesty (rusty bits photographed, etc), every detail well listed, but either that was a way for him to cover up for the other issues the frame had by appearing open, or he just doesn't know frames very well (hard to believe).
the frame's seatpost clamp is fucked, way overtightened so the tabs are mush and a post will not stay up (not photographed or mentioned) almost making it unuseable (only useable with an additional clamp over the top of the tube).
i took my frame to a local shop to get it sized for a seatpost and the owner wouldn't sell me a seatpost because he said the clamp had been overtightened. it does look a bit "pinched". but that guy is also a miserable cunt, so i took it to another bikeshop down the road and they sorted me out... i've had no problems with it since. did make me feel shit about the frame at the time though.
in addition his communication is awful. after i had payed i asked him to notify me when he had shipped the frame, which he didn't even bother to respond to, let alone notify me of dispatch. and even though i had left him positive feedback (after i had received the frame but before proper inspection, my own fault) he has still not left me any feedback, almost a month after i had bought the frame. i've sent him at least two messages asking for feedback, to no avail.
he took about 2 weeks to respond to my message asking for his contact details after agreeing that i could pick it up from his house. then when he finally responded he just said that he had already left his number (on the eBay invoice which I hadn't checked).
actually, neither of these point to him being a cunt. just me being an idiot.

not sure if i would go so far as to call him a cunt (not knowing him) but i would NEVER make a purchase from him again. bought a frame from him recently (my first ebayed frame) and the listing came off as all honesty (rusty bits photographed, etc), every detail well listed, but either that was a way for him to cover up for the other issues the frame had by appearing open, or he just doesn't know frames very well (hard to believe).
the frame's seatpost clamp is fucked, way overtightened so the tabs are mush and a post will not stay up (not photographed or mentioned) almost making it unuseable (only useable with an additional clamp over the top of the tube). in addition some of the brazeons had metal chemically welded into them (the gear cable braze-ons) so they needed drilling and filing for the cables to be run, again unmentioned or photographed.
the braze-ons i could see as an oversight. the seatpost tabs could not be missed.
in addition his communication is awful. after i had payed i asked him to notify me when he had shipped the frame, which he didn't even bother to respond to, let alone notify me of dispatch. and even though i had left him positive feedback (after i had received the frame but before proper inspection, my own fault) he has still not left me any feedback, almost a month after i had bought the frame. i've sent him at least two messages asking for feedback, to no avail.
if it wasn't for the fact that my wife has fallen in love with the frame and she isn't all that bothered about the unsightly additions i've had to make to it, he would definitely have been reported, goods returned.
nice one. thanks for posting this. :)
I will avoid him now on. -

Totally unique, you won't find another bike the same as this, a lot of the parts, that have been added to this bike have been bought brand new, for example: seat post, saddle, handle bars, grips, headset, top and bottom brackets....
top bracket?? thats a new one to me, anyone care to enlighten me as to what one is?

So which ones are the nice ones?
the nice one are those that are made with decent tubing such as Reynolds 531, my dream bike is this;
the Peugeot PX-10
my father used to have one, all his university friend at Cambridge have Merican, Colnago, Bianchi, etc. but he went for a PX-10 (took him a year to save up to get it), shame it broke a couple years ago (BB snapped off), and he end up getting an Genesis road bike that was ironically cheaper than the PX-10 at the time.
I'd love to try and build a decent Peugeot up, or even find a PX-10.
I also saw a Titanium peugeot bike outside Condor every now and then, pity the owner tend to leave it there for a couple or more days.
I suspect I may have failed massively then... bought a NOS Diamant frame off him a few weeks ago. But he seemed like a reasonable guy... he met me at Potter's Bar to drop the frame off, saving me postage cost. Frame is also pretty much perfect although he did say the seatpost diameter was 27, bought a suitable post and would it go in? Would it fuck, wouldnt get the damn thing in with a hammer. See what you guys mean about him buying loads of stuff. His car was rammed with bike stuff and he seems to have found an absolute shedload of diamant frames judging be the number coming up on ebay
