  • Anyone got advice RE: carrying mace?

In a commercial branded spray. How fucked would you get if you got searched by the police?

  • In order to hopefully show i'm not a twunt when i'm driving my truck i hereby relinquish its details for those who would wish to report me/know who i am if i were to fuck up on the road.

With this much information, you'll be the new Ed of the Spotted ... thread. Just make sure you range around Condor a lot.

  • Why has nobody concealed a can of mace in a D-lock / as a D-lock? (On second thoughts, probably unwise to put in in a working one. It could go wrong when you were fiddling around with the key).

Any entrepreneurs reading this can have that idea for free.

Mace and stun guns are offensive weapons.
You'd get a criminal record if they stopped you and charged you.
Not clever from a future career point fo view and forget about travelling anywhere by plane these days with that on your file...
You would not get into the USA with that on file.

    +1.

    Don't even think of it.

  • I've got some pepper spray, how about that?

  • suppose i've been pretty lucky so far then. All i've had is people screaming out the window just as they're passing, and once a guy tried to slap the back of my head as the car drove past. But even shouting abruptly could cause some serious injuries for cyclist and pedestrians. Just fucking stupid wankers out there who just dont think of consequences!

Ironic seeing as mace is fully legal in the USA..

note taken, I do actually really want to go to the USA. Might make a disguised stealth version though,

  • I've got some pepper spray, how about that?

    No, sorry.

  • My main fear is the Clapham Common Rottweiler. I've been watching The Dog Whisperer and now know how to tame a Bulldog but nothing yet on Rottweilers.

AlexB, I really hope that the police will do something about it. Let us know.

@ Cliveo, I seriously don't want to learn to drive.

  • Comes under the exact same rulings as a handgun. don't even go there.
    HOWEVER,
a water pistol filled with pepper/water does not.

  • last night blue van pulled over when I was undertaking it. landed on the kerb. some people never look in the mirror before manoeuvre. now I have a gangster walk. rekanize!!!

    You guys!

Make Pepper Spray ! (homemade Teargas) - Video

    It's that easy.

    Peace

Sorry, still covered, the intent is there...offensive weapon.

Jeez, Ill just carry a bottle of hot sauce around. Claim it was for my lunch!

  • why not use tabasco sauce instead?

  • The sea has a lot of salt spray, how about that?

  • Seem to remember these being popular when I was a chavling.

i completely forgot i have one of those somewhere. i managed to take it off the train. i swear if you make a connection to someones dome or knee cap with that it shatters?! i wouldn't wanna be wielding one of those for fear i'd get my self thrown in jail. but it would be perfect to really fuck someones car up

Why would the only reason why you wouldn't break someone's kneecap be that you might get jailed?

Have you considered a career in the Mafia?

And why would anyone want to do anything as stupid as 'fucking someone's car up'?

You seem to imply that that might be acceptable as you might not get jailed?

Sorry if I'm having a sense of humour fail here, but this post just doesn't come across as if you've thought about this in any seriousness or are trying to be funny.

  • remember, even if you managed to smash a vehicle windows in sheer revenge and get away with it, chance are the vehicle owner will act deliberately aggressive to any cyclists it will encounter.

    think of the consequence.

  • If you feel the need to carry something. How about a old school metal framefit pump. They are pretty lightweight, which I imagine would mean you could inflict enough pain to someone without a high risk of really injurying them.

They can inflate your tyres too ;)

  • has anyone thought about a 12 bore shooter, strapped to the top tube?
What about a chainsaw? or a zombie?

+1 on the drivers should ride bikes. thing is they probably did when they were younger. It's often said that if car drivers were made to take a CBT and ride around for a year on a 125 motorcycle or scooter they would be better drivers. It makes sense until you consider that all cab drivers did exactly that and most of them seem to drive like twunts.

(Actually I do think that in the absense of similarly standardised cycling training new cyclists should be encouraged take a CBT course on a moped to learn some 2-wheeled safety, control and road sense.)

Huh? Are you aware that there is a National Standard for cycle training?

    http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/sustainable/cycling/cyclingpolicyoverview?page=9
    http://www.lcc.org.uk/index.asp?PageID=378
    http://www.bikeright.co.uk/services/instructor_training/national_standard/

It should obviously be made compulsory and funded more generously.

It's highly recommended in any case for everyone to take it. Have you not done it yet?

  • @Oliver
    I didn't know that, no.
And I bet most other cyclists don't. Certainly not the ones who wear headphones and never look over their shoulders anyway ;-)

I'm very pleased there is one. I wonder how it compares to CBT? Whilst compuslory training may put people off cycling, I think the general standard of cycling in this country is so poor that maybe it should be - say as part of the national curriculum at school.

  • Woo! Guns!

Mount one of these badboys on your fg bike.

    perfect for 'self defence'
