  • hi im Sion,

since sniffing around on here over the last couple of days ive:
    a) Managed to not make the mistake fo buying unipack, and
    b) Managed to relieve my old man of his old harry quinn pride and joy (lots of gears and such on the moment....hopefully all to change soon)

will get some picks once ive finally managed to get it out of his front door

  • I'm sure after 23 pages you're all bored of introduction posts, so I apologise but here's another.

My name's Chris, 26, blew into Nottingham a few months back, saving pennies for a bike

  • Hello All,

I thought I would take the plunge & say hi as I would like to pop down to the east end drinks one of these weeks and thought I should at least be a member. I have been lurking for a while now......

I never would have thought that I would have spent quite so many hours reading the ramblings of a group of strangers who are, in most cases, linked by nothing other than their fascination with bike with no gears. Random. Thanks to you all, some of this stuff is hilarious (particularly the Specialized sponsorship, genius) Really useful of course too.

I have had a Fuji Track for about 3 months. Do a relatively short 8/10 miles round trip to work (rain or shine) plus occasional w/end adventures. I am not going to go all Hipster on Y'all but I have put on some cut down risers, need a new saddle (ugly) and am considering lowering the gears a touch. I can almost hear the cries of HTFU as I type!

I feel better have got that of my chest

    Cheers

  • Will, do you reel around the fountain?

  • Only if you slap me on the patio

  • oops! i need reminding ebay and beer don't mix.

  • oops! i need reminding ebay and beer don't mix.

'Fess up, what did you buy?

  • I tink you can all guess.
One of them cheapo £149 quid things ( black and white).
just done 10 miles on it and nothing has fallen off.

  • .........the bottom bracket sounds and feels like sand was used as a lube when it was put together and the headset had an extra loose bearing causing a nasty notchy feel.

  • See new thread

My first bike had a similar gear to the standard Fuji Track, around 81" and while it fricking flew when you got it going, it wasn't ideal for riding around town. I've now got about a 72" gear on my every day bike and 65" on my trick bike.

I'd definitely change the gear if I were you.

  • Hello my name is Maksim. I have a bike that I am restoring and want to make into a fixed gear. I am trying to collect all the parts and knowledge before I return to Poland.

The bike currently isn't very good, I am making it look better 1st whilst riding it a lot to increase my fitness. Once I have completed making it look better, less rust and things, better wheels and tyres I hope I will have all the parts I need for the conversion.

    Thank you for your time.

    Maks.

  • Oh yes I forgot to mention that I'm not polish. My father is English, my mother is Russian and I work as an English teacher in Poland.

  • Where in Poland?

  • Silesia Region. Having just searched the site though it appears that my bike is not able to be converted.

  • Just wondering if there's any fixies in the harrow/watford area? (new too all this)

Welcome Mikey. If only everyone's first post was as thought out as this, then the world would be a better place.

BTW what colour do you think I should paint my kitchen, oh and how short do you think my taps should be.

As I said, welcome and see you at drinks soon.
