• £27 on a wheel that i dont even need
£4 on some white primer

and i almost have a complete bike, i just need to spend around £100 on a rear wheel, headset and stem.

• Have successfully not thought about the grand total until now.....must be around....
£1600....sigh.....still not enough.

• I only spent £600. New road bike is coming in the new year. i have decided I need to spent more to be a better rider..

£80 on tubes... do you roll on 40psi taking a fine line through the sides of cycle paths

• My build probably cost about £1K, then all different things like clothes, lights, gloves etc on top of that.

• About 1000 on the gotti, changing everything on the gotti and a whole bunch of stuff for my BMX. And clothes and lights and other shit.
Oh, and about 200 on the GF's bike.

1200 total. I would like to think it would be less next year but I have my eyes on a new bike already.

• What with buying and selling, probably about six/seven hundred. Need to buy new shoes soon though.

Only £10 of that was on tubes, another £3-4 on repair kits. How the hell do you spend £80 on tubes? (Unless you're like smallfurry who would appear to be able to spend that on customs alone)

• Four bikes worth of money.

• 5+k

and I thought I had a problem ;)

• at one stage i went through 4 cars in a year. bikes are a lot cheaper!

• I didn't think I'd spent that much money this year as I haven't been able to cycle that much but then I just noticed I've become a platinum customer at wiggle. Probably spent another £700 in other places and getting a new road bike at the weekend, but its on the cyclescheme so dosen't really count for this year. Total £2000 roughly

I thought you had the look of a petrol-head about you!

• Anybody else find themselves saying this to their 'better halfs'

"what this old thing? its an old hub I've had sitting around the toolshed for ages"

She nevers questions it, and I never question her, when she amazingly discovers that she had a unworn pair of shoes "sitting around the back of the wardrobe for ages".

• Cough Student Loan Cough

• Read in entirety before commenting dear sir, the backbone of any debating technique ;)
Riding on shit apparently made from paper tyres, 1 puncture every 2 days for 3 weeks, changed tyre. 1 puncture every 4 days, patch until tube punctures with huge rip. By the end of 2008 = £80 on inner tubes.
Shwalbe Delta cruisers are shit BTW

Nope. If I did that I'd forget the comments I wanted to make by the time I got to the end of a thread. It's not a debate anyway, it's a forum discussion.
Know what you are arguing.. the real backbone of debating, dear sir. :P

You didn't think to change you tyres or route or technique after 1 week of punctures let alone 3! No-one punctures that much unless there's something wrong with their kit or their installation.

• probably about £3k. but that includes a brand new road bike and a new track bike. sold a bike or two as well so spending's not as bad as previous years. ive started buying what i need rather what i want in '08

Ha! I started buying what I wanted rather than what I needed in '08 :)

You will please note that I also buy quite sensibly. Most of my purchases will have a high resale value (especially my knicks... mmm yum) ;)

YES!
"These are only small things. like accesories. Buying parts is cheaper"

"all these parts are about the cost of one of your bags"

I always finish it with the "this keeps me fit and saves me money on public transport. as for yours......"

dogsballs States Fact in Bizarre Forum Shocker!

• Having a year off racing, so not too much.

• I've probably spent the thick end of a grand. There goes my argument about cycling being cheaper than an annual Travelcard... Still, it keeps the beer belly at bay and saves me the cost of gym membership.

• I had a think about this.......... I think an absolute value is misleading. So I've come up with a ratio.....

Money spent on cycling / hours of riding

hourly wage

So imagine you spent £500 on cycling in a year and rode 100 hrs whilst earning a £5 min wage then your ratio would be (500/100)/5= 1 And indeed 1 seems a good base.
Over 1 and life seems cycling poor, under 1 is good 0=Lance!
I name this index FECK index, for various reasons......... how do you score??
FE

• Thanks a bunch for making me think about this - I am now resolved to try and spend less in 09

• Fuck that, just ride more..... get FECKed!

• I don't think I want to work this out- I started thinking about it just in terms of clothing:
Shoes £175
Helmet £110
Other shoes £95
Shorts £60
Jacket £130
Etc etc

If I included bikes and bike parts I'd be on my way to a Hippy-esque level, and I'd rather live in ignorance rather than work it out.

• £531+n(itto njs p72 seatpost)+y

• Nothing. I fornicated with staff from the bike shops, and got the bikes as "presents".

You people all paid?

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.........
