Platini, couldn't you just get and welcome that young lady from the photo that you posted on the last page. She is apparently a professional. So am I. I am sure she would be a magnificent contributor to this site. Even if some of us are so old that we can only look and admire and have discourse about the finer aspects of professional practice and conduct.

Thanks, I'll try and take a look when the site's up and running again. Are they amphibious bikes? Sounds interesting!
Having read the **'advice for new members' section, **I apologise for calling my fixed wheel bike a 'fixie'. My bad.You read my post, finally a new member read my post. And I only wrote it to get rep points too. Lovely lovely rep points. Sometimes they got given out to people who just make jokes you know; we call them ruination points you know.

If we introduced a ten-post rule, this would be a great picture of the nursery.

That's no lady. That's my brother. It's not something we like to dwell upon...

Just out of interest, would I be hated by this forum if I ran some wethepeople royal cranks with a 42tooth profile imperial sprocket on my fixed wheel bike? Want to try something a little different and I have a few plans...

Hated, no
Mocked, probably by some but not by all. Most people would just say HTFU, do what you want, and get out and ride :)
So...
HTFU, do what you want, and get out and ride :)

why worry about whether you'll be hated for a build decision? you won't be hated for thinking about your build. You might have the piss taken for "acoutrements" but it's only to have a laff -but you're more likely to get good advice posting queries about your build.
This forum doesn't dictate what's acceptable or not, ride what you like dude.. safety is paramount, the rest is how efficient / sturdy / nice-to-look-at your bike is. A lot of that's up to your taste and needs.
btw i don't know enough about bikes to answer your actual question......;)

I was going to do it anyway, just wondered if there was anyone with a view or opinion on using bmx cranks. I'm also going to be running a front hope xc on the back with a custom made axle and a bolt on ISO sprocket from London Fixie Bike. Not really a conventional Fixed wheel setup, but from an engineering point of view, better in almost every way!?

Please post pictures when done/worked on (Current Projects is best thread for this). Would be interested to see this set up.

Certainly. My friend is machining the axle up for me at the moment (I don't have access to a centre lathe at the moment), got some rims in the post, should all be done by next week.
Only issue I think I'm going to have is: 120mm dropout spacing and a hubshell designed for 100mm spacing. All the extra space is being taken up on the non-drive (non-disc) side of the hub, so the wheel is going to need quite a lot of off-centre dishing (20mm obviously). I'm really looking forward to seeing how well it works though.
One of the main reasons I want to use 3 piece BMX cranks is the infinitely adjustable chainline, with spacers on the axle between the BB cup and the crank arm. As the rear cog will be extremely un-adjustable (fixed to the disc mounts), this might be very useful! -

Good work.........

two posts now.
the issue is that i don't have too much to say. I'm a guy of few words. I might have to resort to talking crap to get the postcount up. (Why did I even join the forum??)

Do you have a question about attaining hipster level 2 perhaps or what colour saddle would look best with your particular brand of jeans?

You'll fit in just fine with the rest of us then. -

Well i just ride a stock Langster, never seen any need to change bits to be a peacock. I do prefer to roll up my jeans in the summer (ankle socks natch) than tuck them into my socks. So with the Langster and the turned up jeans have i attained level 1 yet??
Also does being a hipster mean you can't do high miles, and get the train everywhere instead of riding 30+ km? I might struggle with reducing my weekly milage.....

If you ride your bike, you've lost points already, try again.
You should be pushing it from home to the coffee house to the gallery to the bar and back home again. Job done. -
• #693
Never mind I'm going for the Fraudax look anyway. The only problem is that i actually ride audaxes......
Hmmm, there are so many barriers to getting into an elite scene such as this.

There's no problem with audaxes! I'd love to give some a go.. I'm just too shit with navigation.
I still get lost on sportives with marked bloody courses! Trust me.. this place ain't elite. -
• #695
I was just joking. So where do the hipsters hang out then??
It's so nice to find a place where people reply to your posts straight away, rather tha treating you like you've got the lurgy.
On Audaxes just follow everyone else.
5! Off probabtion......bam.........keys to the forum please.......

If it helps I run profile cranks (165 race cranks) with a 36tooth gusset chainring. Got a BMX front hub on that bike too. It's your bike. Build it how you want to, you'll love riding it way more.
