i had a feeling you would blow my cover...

  • If you leave the end of the head (the part that you strike the ball with) as a tube cross section, you introduce quite a few unneeded glancing angles that make the strike less predictable - if you really want to get your professional bike polo ass on this (and become some kind of Brick Lane sex hero) it might help to cap these two open ends to give you a single flat (although I recommend a slight convex) striking surface on each end.

Although you might not really give a shit, in which case carry on.

    Nice job by the way.

What would you use to cap the ends? After watching Polo overseas I've started it up here in Auckland (NZ) just made a bunch of sticks, had 15 people turn up this weekend, which I'm pretty happy with. Still, could do with a bit more advice on making sticks though..

Good work on getting the polo going in NZ.

I think anything that could cap the end off and is secure would work well, ideally it should be a little convex and not completely flat.

If I had to make one myself and was starting will the cut tube section - I would buy a bag or tub of Polymorph - a cheap thermoplastic that you can dip in boiling water and when soft mould into any shape you want, when it cools it sets as an incredibly tough - but not brittle - nylon like plastic.

  • when are you going to play polo tynan?

I am always there spiritually, sometimes you may see a bush move, that's me that is.

yeh after looking at those guides posted by DT i think il stick a bolt through the side as well, cheers guys

  • for the side bolt... people do this in various ways...i found with my new mallet i've drilled the hole a lot higher than half way. Its just a holding bolt after all and you dont want it in the way of the ball.

yeh id noticed that, will drill it higher up just a thin bolt, nice one

  • not too thin as the bolt will probably bend... and force the end of the ski poll out of the yellow tubing...

a strong bolt (5m) is a good idea, and tighten it so the tube is slightly distorted.
