How can you ride brakeless without skidding a lot ray? You ain't xactly a slow rider, from memory. I skid like a crazy man on my brakeless bike.
Those airless tyres are really tempting, despite the fact they must weigh a ton, and probably fall off if you try and skid them...

+1 on the stelvio plus, great skid life, high pressure (140?) good turning grip, very puncture proof.

I dunno if the technology has changed much but these things existed years ago and back then they sucked cause they couldn't do anything with an equivalent pressure to a 100psi tyre (or even a 50psi tyre). It was like riding on a semi flat all the time.
Also I'd imagine they're either a real bitch to get on or they slip round.

....and once you've skidded past the point of a normal tyre they'd be horrible to ride anyway (too thin to work properly).
If you're prone to lots of punctures (hawthorns etc... NOT skidding) they're probably great but otherwise I'm not keen.

What's the general consolation with the Maxxis Detonator tyres**? they look pretty decent;
and the Schwalbe stelvio plus look like it'd be decent for skidding;

when are you coming back
or is lager by the litre and huge sausages going to keep you in Berlin?

Do the Stelvio Plus only come as a folding tyre? Wanna try one on my new rear wheel but worried it's gonna roll off the rim (H + Son), I've heard this might be an issue... Still not enjoying a GatorSkin on the back...

Maxxis Detonator are ace. Finaly had to replace mine having ridden them since April. Really hard wearing.

I don't skid....well, for the moment. But I think the Continental Ultra Sport might be a good bet.

http://www.allterraincycles.co.uk/product/113775.htmlI use these and they are terrible in the wet, they jump when u try to skid, but once they warm up they are better, in the dry they are excellent but wear very quickly

they are bad in the wet, but the benefit of that is that it'll wear out less, I prefer tyres that are slighty less gripper than the average, thus skidding and stop-skid won't easily wear it out quickly.

the guy at my lbs told me that schwalbe has stopped making the stelvios, so if you like them you'd better stock up. apparently there were a lot of complaints about punctures. they're being replaced by a line called "durano".
Scwalbe Stelvio Plus
Lil bit odd at first, but after a few days of riding they supple up a bit. Haven't had any punctures, just a couple of blow offs, but that was probably due to the rim.
Been running them for 4months now and as good as ever. Squared off a bit on the rear.
