When I was 19 - 21 I knew everything, as the years pass I seem to be loosing more and more knowledge. I think it 's called dementia. Now where did I put my tea.

Having a 5litre car bought with bankers money is the ultimate sin in my eyes.
Not as much of a sin, as the amount of money they spend on coke. Which really does cause untold misery in places like Brazil and Columbia.
Not that anyone really gives a fuck about that though on a Friday or Saturday night

insert Mark Twain quote here

If you listen to Socrates, True knowledge is knowing you know nothing. So in essence, you are becoming more knowledgeable

in that case, Mark Twain quote #37 seems apt.

I guess I can ignore this thread and you guys can carry on infinitum. I just didn't like the ganging up and personal nature of some of the posts.
The forum is mainly for bike related stuff and I'd never want someone to feel ostracised as a result of anything outside of cycling (political views, line of work etc.). There's enough of that bullshit in the real world, outside of our hobbies.
And as for students - I'm not saying that your opinion doesn't matter. Uni is a time to form the viewpoints, opinions and credos that will shape the rest of your life. However, please don't labour under the misapprehension that you know shit from shinola at the ripe old age of 19 to 21.
My anti-track-standing views have never prevented me from getting along with you. I think cb1514 will be fine ;)

A bit like Henry's cat.

ooh do tell who is being simple.
not that I give much of a fuck in the face of such heated exhanges from others but "simplistic" was the word LA.. I maintain that and they know who they are..

Was it me? Is it because I'm opposed to simplistic world views that I am being simplistic? I hope so. I love irony.

I've enjoyed reading the debate.
I was offered a job in a bank a few years ago and before I could have my contract I had to have a medical that included a drugs test and a cervical smear test. I was not sure about the job but I went for the medical and called my agency a couple of hours later to say that I had changed my mind and did not want the job. Cervical smear test for a job..... I wondered if men had to have a protaste check before being given a job there.
I was also shocked that qualified doctors chose those kinds of jobs.

I love irony.
I can't stand it. For this reason I'm very careful how I hang my shirts. Most of the time I can get away without ironing them but then again as dale says I do quite often look like I should be on a building site.

yeah wot he said.
i admire your youthful optimism but once you have been cast out from the warm bosom of academia, financially ass-raped™ and thrown in to the gutter of society your views will soon change.
this is all it takes to become an cynical opinionated cunt like me.
EDIT: having pondered a bit more, age doesn't always bring wisdom with it either, you only have to look at the main content of this thread to see this.

I thought Josef Fritzl committed the ultimate sin

what about mature students?
Most mature students are either having a midlife crisis, or have a desire to return to their youth.
Certainly true in my case (and many others I've known) -

I'm worried that these "you"s and "your"'s are directed me. I should mention I'm not 19-21, and have had large breaks from the academy (where I've been a real member of society, earning my keep, etc.). In fact, I'm on one now - I start my new job in the gasp finance industry on Monday. I dread it with every fibre of my being though.

i know that most of the 19-21 things are directed at me. but i think that its the same with everyone, we all have unrealistic world views and aspirations at some point in our young lives, with most of us its just a matter of time till we "sell out" (tm) and loose our way, due to the soul destroying reality that nothing any of us will do can ever really change things drasticlly. however i reckon politics, like with most things, isn't about an end point and mass change but about how you get there and small local changes that effect you and those around you , so being perpetually annoyed by most things doesnt seem such a bad prospect to me because all the good memeories will help put off the soul crushing (i hope).
who was it that said " Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has no heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains."
