That's a totally random, courtesy of google, boardwalk.
The man made trails I used to ride were in North Wales and Grizedale forest.I've heard talk of some in South Wales or similar length train rides from London - More info as I find out.
You can totally ride them on a rigid bike, but it'd be a lot more comfortable with suspension.
That said I raced a season of DH on a rigid bike, it just requires more skill and stupidity. -

Is a 45mile ride too long for the 5th?
-
• #54
Dude. We really need to discuss route tomorrow at the westend beers. You can't leave this purely up to me as we'll end up riding somewhere like here
Which probably isn't really the training that you want :]
Looks like a velodrome :-)

Website says its only 39 miles, 4-6 hours.. peace of caek.
I'll bring homemade flapjacks / energy bars, you bring encouragement and sense of danger. -
• #56
Prav you need to learn to read.
Remember if you take the train this will add 6 miles to the 39 mile route!
It could be stupid and we need to find a copy of that map. Flapjack is a wicked idea. Now I just need to find what I did with my camelback.

prav, if you and roberto? are willing to travel to wales then i've got the week before my trip up to london off and i'm planing a trip to afan or what ever the other trail center is with my friend tom. so we could get some riding in together then and then just meet up on the friday for some beers, or carb drinks if you're bulking up.

and I'll do my best to hit the floor often and hard as I attempt anything which used to be in my capabilities. Hopefully we'll all get back muddy/bleeding/knackered and with stories that'll stay with us for minutes. Maybe even hours if we're lucky ;]
Like jumping over a log at High Beach, in front of all the grannies and kids having a jolly day out in Epping, and landing on your side :)
Yes I finally joined. The uniqlo bike thread made me do it.

Great to see you eventually on the forum dude. And thanks for recounting that story. The state of my shins after that ride was beautiful :]

Prav, 45miles is starting to sound quite epic considering the weight of my bike. I can't wait!
Fantomette, Great to hear you're able to come.
+imMe, Are you in or is work haveing a preventative effect? -

+imMe, Are you in or is work haveing a preventative effect?
Haven't clarified with work exactly what days they expect me here, but it will be most of them, so no cycling for me.

soreen and peanut butter....?
-
• #70
For you two that's cool.
Soreen isn't vegan unfortunately.I'll likely be eating all of the carbohydrates this week then just taking nuts, berries and some bread for the actual ride.

are you guys really doing 45miles off road?
it will be a killer as the trails are not running fast at the moment everything is really draggy and the chalk parts of the north and south downs will have some real sticky bits.
that distance is fine when the trails are dryer but it's really hard to carry any speed at the moment, 2.1's recommended. -
• #73
way-hey! thanks for the heads-up MrSmith.
2.1" girth - gotcha. -
• #74
Cheers for the offer Tommy, I've actually got a BMX lid, but it's taken a few more heavy knocks than I like. I reckon it's time for a new one, unfortunately Rakan's is too large for me.
If I don't find a suitably priced camel back then I'll definitely take you up on that offer though.
Prav, 2.1? I'm rocking a 2.2 on the back and a 2.35 on the front. Still unsure of pedal choice and fixed vs free yet though.

Found this picture online - that's provenrad on the left and Momentum on the right (Object was taking the picture):
Do you really need a big willy bike to do this? I'd like to give it a go though so where is it?
