  • Dude. We really need to discuss route tomorrow at the westend beers. You can't leave this purely up to me as we'll end up riding somewhere like here

Which probably isn't really the training that you want :]

  • :-O I need to HTFU. The fear is great in me.
I would get off and walk that bit. How about some fitness / skills riding? How is Epping?

EDIT - actually, it doesn't look too bad!

  • that ^^ looks sick object. do they have that around here? ive got an xc bike tho and i know, not having done any proper mtb'ing the last 1.5yrs, id sht myself as soon as terrain gets mildly steep. but would like to give it a go!

  • Epping's alright but to be honest I always end up playing in the Cultural heritage site. This is expressly forbidden by the way but those bomb holes are great fun.

The area's nice and hilly but it's mostly wide gravelled paths, unless of course you ditch the paths and just head straight into the forest.

  • Just to quickly remove a possible error in perception. I've only been mountain biking once in the last 6 years.

Admittedly I used to ride 4-5 times a week in North Yorkshire and raced for quite a while but I'm expecting to be slow. That said I always used to be nuts so I can fully see me throwing myself down/over/off/at every perceivable obstacle possible.

A nice cross country route would likely be the best option for the 5th as it'll encompass something for everyone. Prav can speed off ahead to get his training in and then wait tapping his foot at the top of any hills and I'll do my best to hit the floor often and hard as I attempt anything which used to be in my capabilities. Hopefully we'll all get back muddy/bleeding/knackered and with stories that'll stay with us for minutes. Maybe even hours if we're lucky ;]

  • Object - I'll leave it in your capable hands. I'm constantly visiting dorking / peaslake so thought we could mix it up a bit? Westie beers = conspiratorial MTB chatter.
@ scott - if you manage to sell all your bikes I can lend you a rigid 18inch Kona Koa. It's pretty crap, but apparently so are you?! hehe. I can't believe you had that BMW monster and are making excuses. I went over the handlebars recently when I tried to pull a manual on the flat (and only got my wheel approximately 10 inches off the ground.)

Avoid the paths! There is a pretty interesting route from Snaresbrook to Epping and back. I tried it after a night of drinking and left waymarkers in green puke. I felt very i'll and scared a bunch of walkers with constant vomiting. Epping forest is only really any fun when it's dry and dusty, then you can get a bit of speed up, otherwise it's a bit of a slog.

    Chris

  • Scott, surely you've still got the 29er?
Prav, how far are you prepared to travel for a days mountain biking?

  • wales? no limits really..
@ scott - I know.. something happened when my front tyre met the ground at speed + not straight.
