. . . . unprotected . . . think about it . . . ;)

• tynan
nimhbus never mind. you weighed in with ' I make my living song writing.' which strongly implied that Logic was the pros choice.

whatever software you use is the very best, it is used by the highest paid composer in the world (and that is scientific proof of its superiority).

don't be bent, that's not what i meant at all, and you know it. i couldn't care less.

• where did that sink button go.....eh?

You are causing cognitive dissonance in my brain. !!

There is one person here who has claimed professional status for a particular sequencer:

well, it's for professionals who need serious power, anyway. let's put it like that. - now who said that ? :P

• big mummy smeear where did that sink button go.....eh?

Let's kill some people !

• I did.

and you had to say that you are a professional and that you use logic.

fine, whatever, leave it.

• stop being a bender

stop

stop it

• nimhbus I did.

No, let's kill each other. :)

Oh no !!! I said that I am a professional and that I use logic, how very dreadful.

Genuinely I apologise if my putting my use of a sequencer in some context caused the 'red mist' to descend.

Let's start again without reference to why or how we have come to use our particular sequencer of choice.

I'll start:

Unqualified, I say Logic is pretty good, I have tried a few but always seem to come back to Logic.

Logic express is pretty much all you might ever need - 64 tracks of audio, endless tracks of plug-in instruments, heaps of effects plugins.

other sequencers exist and perform equally well / results may vary

then eat the bodies…
After cooking them with their own poo.

• are we still eating the bodies?

• ooohhhhh, fancy gourmet stuff

• daddy or chips

• Skullhead I recommend a four track and some mics. let go, nobody listens to techno (or eminem for that matter). Feckin hot chip my arse

Nobody Listens

Edit: Wow, it automatically does a playeringthingame for the mp3 thingie..

• Daw Wars. Like Tyan said, it's the interface/workflow we are talking about here. One difference is Logic has implemented side chaining better than Cubase/Nuendo v3 not sure about 4, and Cubase and Nuendo have easy warping of audio like Abelton.

What it really comes down to is the the plug in instruments and effects. Logic does have a better bundled suite, but most people will use some 3rd party stuff anyway, and the big ones are all cross platform.

After Apple bought out emagic and Logic was no longer available for PC I switched to Nuendo. I have only recently moved to a 3.0GHz quad for Logic. I personally find it quicker to get a song written in Logic with all the libraries for ideas. It's a bit like Reason in that respect. I then bounce down the tracks in Logic and master in Nuendo. This stops me trying to tweak/master all the sounds while still at the writing stage, and also because my PC still has the Sony Oxford and SSL plugs which I use to master.

• Acid pro pretty much does everything as well... I prefer it than logic, run a few vst's for different functions and you're laughing.

• what about reason (by propellerheads)? quite pro but needs own instruments, etc, so v3 is around 2gb..

• reason is a bit weird, (or was in the early versions) and is really focussed on the 'Techno/house/dance music' crowd (loopy, fake analogue gear chained together).

Logic, Cubase, Nuendo, Protools, are all more about recording/producing 'songs' and all have pretty much the same functionality and possibilities.

if you area on a mac just download Logic Express and try it out. - you coudl use it as a simple 4track if you wanted to and need not go into any of the other shit.

• My brother and I have a veritable recording studio in our back garden using Garageband...

So it's not poo! It's fucking brilliant!

• logic pro all the way!
i'd use some plugins as well though, cos i'm not the biggest fan of the built in synths (although the ultrabeat is amazing).
i've been producing for years, and studying production for about 5 years now. and it's all about logic!
i use ableton for live stuff. and pro tools is good for live recording.
a lot of the programs you guys were talking about aren't available on mac (fl, audition, sonar, etc.)
logic is also really cheap now for what it is.
gimme a shout if you wanna try it out.

• mister k logic pro all the way!

!!

Oh dear, I fear there are going to be people who get very upset by your comments !!

• lol.
depends what you're after really.
your choices for a DAW for mac which will handle audio, midi, and au/vst are pretty limited.
i use logic cos it's better suited to electronic music than pro tools, and more advanced than ableton.
although, i still use reason (with rewire through logic) for the synths occasionally and i've been getting more and more into MaxMSP.

• you ain't shit unless you know how to prog an SR16 and run up a tascam 4 track

• RPM you ain't shit unless you know how to prog an SR16 and run up a tascam 4 track
As in the Alesis SR16? I had a HR16 and later a D6 back in the days when I was going for that big black sound.

• you are all talking shit.
