  • If you fancy something different, but well tasty, you could do worse that trying Hummus Bros.
They have a place on Wardour St and Southampton Row. It is top nosh, and fills you nicely.
Choice of fillings, drinks and free Wi-Fi too.

Site aint great, but the food is.

  • oh - maoz for falafel on old compton...

  • @ Tommy, 18:30 seems good.
    @ BMMF, What's the address again? :p

  • Object17 @ Tommy, 18:30 seems good.

Today's special is going to be an infection-purgingly hot curry, with black salsify, spring greens, and some mixed sprouted pulses, tempered with a little coconut. There is a 'New-York' style cheesecake in the fridge.

Due to limited space, only riders capable of getting up Muswell Hill in less than 1m30s (plus their wives and children) will be granted entry this evening.

  • Sounds good.

What else is on the menu?

  • @ BMMF, sorry dude I have no children and haven't seen my wife for a good year or so. Technically not divorved yet though so I guess I can't factor her out just yet...

  • ASSA on St Giles High Street right next to CentrePoint, top notch Korean, bloody cheap... My new fave spot... :-P

  • TAYYABS on fieldgate (i listed it in the restaurants section) if you eat meat and spices (they vegetarian as well), but you'll have to cue for 15' if go after 7 (even on a monday) because it is so good, take a friend if you want the lamb chops for starter (highly recommend).

if you in the center of town there is a great value vegetarian canteen at the mary ward center:
The Mary Ward Adult Education Centre is housed right in the centre of London, in WC1, in two inter-connecting Georgian family houses, no's. 42 and 43 Queen Square.

very on the down low (no signage) and limited choice but very good quality, eat in or take out, open til 2100 week days i think. mainly mature students. easily worth a detour if you're in the west end.

  • Little Italy nr. Baker St. station was always nice to us.
I like the International Cheese shop in Liverpool St. station
Musaba Etai(sp?) in the west-end was kinda cool
Gaucho Grill for fscking expensive but fscking nice steak
Wasabi chain (City and Oxford St) for cheapish, filling Japanese
Drayton Court steak and ale pies (unless you're murtle and get the mushroom-only option)
    Silom Village Thai in Ealing

  • i thought you'd stick yer views on this......hehehe

  • Huong Viet - Vietnamese goodness in Dalston

Turkish pizza place, Kingsland Road/Stoke Newington High St - right hand side just north of Shacklewell Lane opposite Backlava place

Somine - really good lentil soup

  • My problem is I can't ever remember the good places I go to.
Ah, that's a lie.. my favourite food are tesco sandwiches.. :)

  • kowalski
The caff in the middle of Archway Roundabout (veggie options and general top scoff, very civilised)

    the tollgate! woohoo i remembered

  • hippy
Musaba Etai(sp?) in the west-end was kinda cool

That's be Busaba Eathai. Same guy who did Wagammamas.

  • I find that place a bit up its own arse and overpriced, and the queues are horrendous, the food I have had there was nice tho.

  • any suggestions round the Paddington area? am meeting a friend who is over from stateside later and he's hotelled up in sussex gardens. thinking gastropub

  • clefty I find that place a bit up its own arse and overpriced, and the queues are horrendous, the food I have had there was nice tho.

Yeah, it's in the west-end, course it's gonna be a bit wank.. food is nice though and I never queued for lunch. Never been for dinner tho.

Paddington? Walk to the Volunteer! No comment on the food I just love the pub. Say hi to Kate if she's tending the bar :)
Hang on.. Sussex Gardens.. save your cash and try some of the prossies around the area :)

  • I forgot about Papa Del's (I thnk it's called) at/near the top of the Archway hill, almost opposit e highgate tube. Wicked italian, not expensive and tables that I want to steal

Also, the Royal Inn on the Park on the edge of Victoria park is pretty good - not cheap, but fair enough value. Many a lazy Sunday afternoon spent there...

  • clefty .
Booths - Stoke Newington Church St, opposite the cemetry - best Calzone pizza ever.

You are obviously utterly mad - Booths isn't even the best pizza place on Church St!

One for Hackney-ites - Hai Ha Vietnamese canteen opposite London Fields Cycles - very tasty, cheap and BYOB.

  • well their standards must have dropped, last time I ate there was 2 years ago and it was yummy. The one a couple of doors before it is ok, but for me the calzone didnt measure up - and thats what i judge most pizzerias by.

actually speaking of Pizzerias, Il Bordellos (sp?) on Wapping High Street, proper Italian run by guys that look like Goodfellas extras, massive portions and a cracking good Calzone

  • Yeah, Booths ain't so good right now - the Il Bacio express cafe is the best (better than Il Bacio main restaurant, which is odd)

  • hippy Little Italy nr. Baker St. station was always nice to us.

Don't eat in wasabi. Cheap chain sushi is cheap for a reason.
My father used to sell Salmon in Billingsgate and advised me not to go there.

Notting Hill: Arancina, very nice Sicilian stuff.

  • I have iron guts.. no problem!

Anyway, I don't eat their sushi, only the £4 hot meals.. mmm chicken curry..

  • Yeah, the sushi at Wasabi is nothing to write home about, but those noodle soup things were my staple diet when I was working at The Dragon.

Finish day job - get tube to Moorgate - buy soup (and sometimes chicken karaage) at Wasabi - eat that at the bar - get behind the bar - work - drink.

  • This is all quite Central / East oriented. If anyone has any good reccommendations out west (Hammersmith / Chiswick way) that would be cool. All I can reccommend are the Dove pub on the river in Hammersmith (great food, amazing banana crumble, but don't go on a Sunday because they take off half the dishes and add on a mediocre roast) and the greasy spoon / Thai restaurant melange that is The Hammersmith Cafe. Oh, and Cafe L'Arome in Cherry Tree Walk just off Chiswell St near Barbican - run by an Italian guy who never stops talking, very reasonable prices and excellent pasta.
