Vegan actually, but I thought I'd be less militant than that and give some other options...

Sano Noodle King - Bethnal Green Road
Cheap and tasty £3.40 for a HUGE plate of sweet and sour chicken and rice that I've never managed to finish
my advice is only eat before 7pm unless you want the MSG giving you heart palpatations when you go to bed! hahaha! i love noodle king, the best hang-over food in town.
ten ten tai is also my favourite eat in the west end, though there is a good pizza cafe (£3 for an 11") near the travel lodge on drury lane (?).
speaking of pizza, other treasures that i probably shouldn't share, but i'm nice, are the stringray globe on columbia road, and the laureston on the roundabout of laureston road and queen victoria street, just off queen vic park. oh yes!

+1 for the Lauriston, and I'm sure Carlos will make 3.
Also The Diner on Curtain Road EC2 (off Old Street), brilliant burgers, pancakes, eggs benedict and milkshakes.

Red Rose Tandoori-Holloway Road (as recommended by The Darkness!)
St John-Junction Road (poncey and pricey but top-notch)
Centro Galicia-Harlesden (superb Tapas and great atmosphere, very sensible prices and a great wine list)
Tim Tim-Clerkenwell Road (top Oriental takeaway)
Chinese Buffet-Oriental City, Colindale (gut-busting and delicious)
The caff in the middle of Archway Roundabout (veggie options and general top scoff, very civilised)
Bolu Kebab-Camberwell Church Street (quality kebabs, excellent sit down platters)

My fucking kitchen - mainly organic produce, all vegetarian, generous portions, best-value in EC1, child-friendly, secure bike-parking within yards. It's a bit exclusive, but I like it that way.

the lauriston is full of dicks. i'd rather eat my own shit than sample the offerings from that pretentious, yuppie infested gastropub. all those liberal art/media whores infesting hackney like a plague of boils, suppurating all over the tables whilst eating their smoked pizzas, hugely expensive fixed wheel bikes posed outside.
all of which makes it ten times better than broadway market. "i'll have the black olives please"... "really? that'll be seven hundred and sixty three pounds per egg cup".

Best Italian in town: Ciao Bella on Lamb's Conduit street. Great prices, massive pasta portions, and a fat pianist. Awesome. But don't have the risotto.

Gregs. Not the best pasties and bakes, but hot and cheap. Goodge street and all over the place.

the Lobster Pot, between elephant & kennington, best fish restaurant in london
the Unique Cafe - Roman Road, for a nostalgic greasy spoon.

I have not been to Ciao Bella but I can say that fitzrovia Tottenham street, is very good nice atmosphere, but don't go there if you are in a rush. Nice place to take a young lady (or man if you're a girl or gay), good atmosphere for romance.
Ciao Bella would have to be very good to beat The fitzrovia IMO.
the bengal lancer in Kentish Town is pretty awesome. If you can finish the habadras suprise between 2 blokes you're doing well (mega meat platter to serve 4-6)
