Thanks. It's written poorly eh?

I can’t read the article and not a building industry pro, but it’s definitely a low number.
But maybe building in a swamp is really cheap? -
• #5979
Yeah it's not great

I would have called it a cess pit but swamp comes close.

Sorry AJ links usually work at least once in incognito mode. The article is basically "there was this plan but it's not gonna happen"

No problem, didn’t try very hard.

I could imagine quite a few good operational reasons for Ashford over Perivale regardless of shithole-ness. I would be interested to know how much strategic analysis was done before commissioning design work. Maybe it was just a punt to explore a concept more than anything ? I havn’t read the article but I don’t remember seeing much more than some concept renders ? Wasn’t anywhere near planning was it ?

I'm getting hair salon vibes. £3k and it uses a bobby basic E27 lamp without dimming, for the price, Anglepoise need to up their game.

^ This, very much.

hair salon vibes
Bastard! That’ll all I can see now. Well you’ve saved me £3k (not that I would have got one you understand) so that’s a plus.
Want an oversized positional floor lamp though. What I really want, but definitely won’t spring for.
I may have a go at making one at some point though.

Can we have some alternatives to that Anglepoise at more like 5-10% of budget please? Need a nice floor lamp for our extension.
-
• #5990
Haha! I can live with that though.

Have you the space for a Castiglioni Arco floor lamp?

I keep buying Habitat Tommy lamps (tiny version, perfect for bedside etc) for absolutely fuck all. I 'think' they did a large floor standing whateveritscalled version. Nice hinges

Just a hats off to that lounge. It looks lovely and exactly what I'd like in a future lounge. Nice armchairs with a view. I've got the same coffee table, just need a new house and garden now.

Well there's your normal big anglepoise

or a tall Jielde? (edit: jeez, those have got expensive!)
Then use the rest of the £3k and go on a nice trip somewhere. ;)
Lovely room by the way.

Thanks, we are very lucky to have it. By far the best bit is being able to sit in that chair and watch the sunsets.

'Vintage' Ikea via eBay? There seems to be a lot of options via DBA that aren't in the UK but presumably will turn up at some point. I have two floor lamps I bought cheaply, one British made 50s wooden standard lamp and a 1980s Arteluce Club lamp that I bought missing the defuser for significantly less than they appear to be sold for now. Nicely designed, good looking larger lamps are definitely out there for not a lot of money, but you may have to do some trawling/minor repairs.

Ours has held up very well physically and stylistically imo.
Have a care for cord control though; if you move it around, move it back in the opposite direction so there’s no twist.

Turnover (IE revenue - sales) dropped by 5% but that translated to wiping out profits almost entirely, presumably as costs went up at the same time.
