  • Shit that sucks. This is why I've never had the courage to do the nursery run because you have to go on proper roads the whole way.

School on the other hand has footpaths most of the way.

Could you have an electric scooter with them standing at the front? Faster and easier than walking and provided you're not being a dick I doubt you'd have issues on the pavement.

  • @Chalfie
    Xtracycle free radical ?

Not the safest, have to admit

  • electric scooter with them standing at the front

This makes me more nervous than seeing parents with kids sat on unrated rear racks. E-scooters and physics do not go well in the physics in my brain. It has to be impossible to stop in any way quickly. Your COG would go over the front wheel much more easily/quickly than on a bike. And then your kid is the crumple zone.

  • It's fine. i'll just work out some juggling. I was going to sell the cargo, use that to help fund car, buy smaller friendlier carrrying bike for 1km distance.

  • And then your kid is the crumple zone.

Kind of irks me when people talk about crumple zones in non car scenarios. how do you view bakfiets and similar bikes then? Prob just slightly triggered as I've been criticised by car brains for putting my child in the 'crumple zone' before- as if a cargo bike is analogous.

  • I was being tenuously analogous, I mean you fall onto your kid.

  • ah i see, more like your air bag then

  • Do you want to carry more than 1 kid at a time?
Nothing from Tern works for you?

  • Only one kid, eldest is "FUCK OFF"

  • Tern works but $£$$£$£

  • I'm enjoying my Quick Haul. Do you have a rough budget?

  • Roughly : NOT A LOT.

  • I'll have to get some on the weekend. Not much changed from a stock P9, some nylon bolts, stem bad and kid carrying stuff up back.

  • That's what made me suggest the "used e-bike with decent rear rack" instead of anything specifically cargo. (You + your child) < (me + my child) in terms of required loading space.....

  • If you can get your hands on a charge steamer they are very capable, i got this frameset for £20 ish and spent another £100 or so fixing it up and putting a seat on it and its a great people carrier. all Passengers so far have loved it!

also ugly enough i don't really worry about it getting knicked. Here's an old pic, got a front basket now so it's even more functional ;-)

    YES

    what else looks like this?

@stevo_com - yep that's it, i just need a bike with a longer seat at the back for quick trips.

  • Oralternativelytheyusetheirfuckingscooter

  • Lots of options like this as long as child is small enough to sit on a seat or pad on rack. Orbea katu would be good

  • What rack for a katu, which I have.

  • You can fit a normal 26/28” rear rack on a katu. Decent options that will hold 35kg

  • Someone should really make a more standard version of this

  • I tried a smol rack on a 20" wheel and it put the kiddos feet too close to mine when pedalling. So a bigger rack is probably recommended for an older kid. I guess it has to be rated for their weight as well which might limit you to...nothing?

  • Yeah it’s looking more and more like “no change”/“scoot down there”.
