  • I mean, we are only talking about a mile or 2 right?

    What borough are you in?

  • Lewisham. Sydenham high street is a mess of cars, which makes buses useless (as usual). And it’s just too far to walk with kids.
Like I said, I’m happy keeping the bike it’s just overkill for what I need now.

  • Has anyone tried a planet X mass transit cargo ebike?
    https://planetx.co.uk/pages/the-all-new-masstransit
Sorry if this has been discussed, I tried to search.
Look to have a powerful 110nm motor and big batteries for the money - reduced to £2400

What do you think? Seems good value at that price
I don't know the Ananda motor kit....
    Opinions much appreciated

  • Yeah I thought they looked quite good value. With unknown motors I’d call local ebike friendly LBS’s and ask if they have personal experience, or if they know of anywhere to service them. I think that would be my main concern if it was to break or need servicing.

Worth emailing ebike service centre (formerly performance line bearings) to see if they can overhaul them too.

Have you checked out the available accessories?

I don’t know the spec or price but have you checked out the decathlon cargo bike? Afaik their after care is pretty good too.

  • charge steamer

    what else looks like this?

The Charge Lazy Susan - the more common Ladies equivalent.

If you can find a reason to go to Kettering:

    (although small maybe too small)

Or for more money and probably a better size, Greenford; https://www.gumtree.com/p/bicycles/charge-lazy-susan-ladies-bike-medium-sized-frame-/1482323347

  • Thanks for the reply.
Yeah, good idea, I'll look into the serviceability of their motor units and speak to ebike. Thanks
The decathlon ones have very mixed reviews it seems - sometimes just fail for no reason by the look if it. It's hard to find reviews where somebody has actually ridden the Planet X one!

  • BBS02 motor on my Omnium is glitching. Screen cut mid-ride. If I leave the battery off for 5 mins or so then try to turn on screen it flashes “Welcome” for a second then switches off.

Battery seems to be charged and fine. Going to hook up to laptop with throttle to see if motor still runs. Will then try to look at all the connections to see if it’s shorted as I’ve been pulling 900 watts at times (although amps are set low).

Any other troubleshooting tips? Or any recommendations for service centres? Most seem to avoid Bafang DIY kits. TIA

  • From a brief poke around on the interwebs the Ananda motors seem to be fairly well regarded. Nice punchy mid drive def more appealing than the hub drive decathlon motor.

I’d pay attention to but be somewhat cautious of online reviews of cargo bikes, people are incredibly mechanically inept and can break almost anything, then are very vocal about how useless it is 😂.

  • A friend is selling an Urban Arrow XL, dated Nov22, belt drive, Rohloff, Bosch 500 frame battery. Magura 4 pot brakes and schwalbe pickup tyres. Wheels rebuilt onto hardier Kinlin rims. Serviced and running well. Also has GPS currently installed and I believe you can transfer ownership fairly easily

Is the more modern frame design with newer rear rack, and gen4 cargo line motor.

Any interest here? I can provide pics!

  • might have someone interested, how much approx please? can it take 2nd batt?

  • It doesn’t have the 2nd battery mount rig thing installed I don’t think. Asking price £4.7k (tis negotiable).

  • They can fit the double battery mount at cost of the parts if that helps

  • Looks at d2.
    shakes head.

  • Talk me through the foot rest and the fork and the brakes pls.

  • Foot rests are from Ali express, they just thread on to the exposed axle (after the nut locks wheel in place). Sturmey archer is some silly size like 3/8. Readily available though.

Fork was a burly 1 1/8 disc fork I had knocking about. I have another similar tonk boi here somewhere that would do the job I think. Could sell for cheap if it is suitable and you would like to do the same.

Seat is a piece of wood, topped with a dense foam then upholstered with outdoor seating textile. Anything would do really.

It’s mounted to the rack with pipe clips that I screwed into the wooden base. I used four and it works great. Nothing to stop you adding more though.

Brakes are drum brake rear, 180mm disc rotor and shimano deore 2 pot on front

It’s v solid and nice to ride. Have done some pretty big trips with partner on the back. I’ve even had my brother as pillion, he’s about 90kg 😀

For a child I would be v tempted to put in some sort of separator between their feet and the spokes.

This. Some gruesome stories from before Tern started putting wheel/spoke guards on the GSD as standard.

  • Larry vs Harry vs Hamax part 2.

Modified the stainless steel support bar by bending it an additional 25 degrees.

This is it now fully reclined. Occupant is sound asleep and comfortable over the bumps in the road.

  • Agreed. First hand experience with spoke vs daughter's foot.

  • Anyone know any framebuilders in London who would be happy to do work on an omnium? And where to get something that large blasted and painted?

  • where to get something that large blasted and painted?

If you're happy with powdercoat most places will be fine as they'll be used to doing things like motorcycle frames.

  • Yes I did think of that. I am a little reluctant to take it somewhere that just does generic powder coating though but it could be an option.

  • No way would I get it blasted by a non bicycle powder coaters. I’d just take it to Steve @aurum. It’s no bigger than a tandem really

  • Do you know if he has done cargos before? I seem to remember reading somewhere that his blasting cabinet was not big enough for an omnium frame

  • Yeah, we asked him to do one of our demo bikes and it wouldn't fit. IIRC it was a large Mini-Max. That was a couple of years ago mind.
