  • we (most architects) design in 3d (BIM) and can generate 3d views/sections from the model. In the old days we still managed to draw sections in 2d...

  • Can you convert DWG to other formats? We had a measured survey done and they provided .dwg (and .pdf) formats from which our architect worked up plans, so I assume they're a format you can start from.

  • Yes you can. The dwgs would be used as a basis for building the computer model from (assuming that's the way you wanted to go) We use Revit which is a Autodesk bit of software so can use dwg files.

  • I've only used DXF for 2D and only then for transferring files, I think it probably does 3D data and DWG definitely does. If you are "generating" sections from a 3D model it would have another format. But you can (people still do) draw plans and sections as 2D CAD drawings (3D model not required).

  • DXF can do 3D and is designed as a format to interchange between programs. It is probably a good bet.

  • 3 weeks on. Big thanks to you and @bluehuw @hugo7 for the thoughts on this. I'm not going to win any interior design or DIY awards any time soon but it's slowly coming together.

  • it’s a great combo. if ‘teal plus orange*’ works for Hollywood movies then it’s good enough for a bathroom

*it’s a standard look up table for grading films

  • Ha, that's great, big up for the orange team

  • Is there any way of storing documents that doesnt make me feel like im in a depressing office? Its all grey and black plasics. I wanted to get some of the classic plywood Ikea Knuff:

But shrinkflation means that ikea make them out of bloody fiber board now!

  • Nowt wrong with fibre board, slap a coat of oil on it.

  • Personally I like filing cabinets or document boxes.

If you only need occasional access ikea do a little drawer filing cabinet (helmer) that's a bit ropey but is compact and neat.

  • I have dozens of magazine files etc from Paperchase. Shame I couldn't keep them in business with my appetite for Kraft storage. I tried.

  • Fantastic!
    Stolen

  • Filing cabinets for paper documents? Ok boomer.

  • There's folders that aren't bad looking.
I have enough shit paperwork in drawers, folders do help.

  • In Germany you are bombarded with paper, even when you try to go digital wherever possible.
And you have to keep all the receipts for ten years because taxes.

  • You still get paper docs for the drivers license/ DVLA, car service history, mortgage docs, electoral register etc.
I loath paperwork but there are still some bits you need.

  • Ay yeah I saw that, but too pricey.

@dbr good idea I'll keep an eye out for a deal on a small colourful one

  • Space for bikes and books, it’s like they can read my mind. or simply stare into space uncanny!

  • Very cool.

I'd really like to see someone do something with a regular height uk flat. Every time I see these there's some sort of cheat code where they're able to access extra space above.

Although I guess you could just image it without the hidden loft and have a desk and screen next to the black wardrobe.

  • Project minimum spend bathroom

Moved into my first home and the start of the year and done embarrassingly little - partly no money partly as I wanted to do some research and get a feel for the place.

Bathroom is obviously so will eventually get redone but likely not for a 3-4 years so want some ideas on what's my best bang for buck upgrades.

Slowly collecting tools and would like to learn how to do a lot myself current thinking is

    • Repanel bath tub
      • Marine ply
      • colour?
      • stye?
        • vertical panels
        • geometric
        • perimeter square
    • repaint ceiling
      • just classic white presumably
    • repaint tiles
      • lots or just the band
    • repaint skirting board
    • repaint door
    • build undersink unit
    • move sink so not in the corner
    • new mirror
