  • Are you after roller blinds? Think some of ours came from Dunelm, cut them to size from a slightly wider one.

  • Not an answer to your question, but if you close the slats the wrong way - so they’re pointing up rather than down, if that makes sense - they let in a lot less light.

  • That's nuts; they made of some vicuna woven by monks in the himalayan alps or something? Definitely looking at under 100 (hoping for even 50?) for a 1ish sqm window

@Trunkie have tried and lived with that but the cord has now gone so good excuse to get something actually fit for purpose..

@midlife I am not equipped with the power tools necessary to do my own cutting so not sure I'd be best at that job.. Was looking at Dunelm since they've got made to measure stuff but thought I'd check here in case the million online blinds shops might be any better.

  • You don’t need any power tools to cut down roller blinds. A pair of scissors and a hacksaw will do you right.

  • hmm £50-£100 could be the price for the top fabric off the roll..

  • The online shops are good. Can’t remember which we used but look for good reviews and off you go. Cheap as well.

  • Try ikea

  • I don't recognise that particular shape. They may be obsolete.
However, these maybe based on yours with a slightly different shape.

Open the door and there will be a screw securing the cover onto the flag.
Let's have a look at the adjuster inside.

  • If you can screw straight into the wooden wall studs then that's ideal. Unlikely, though, so if there's not much of a gap between plasterboard and brick you could go right through and mount in the brick with a rawlplug.

Otherwise I'd just go with a bigger metal cavity wall anchor. After I needed to refix a radiator to a cavity wall, my internet research led me to "Molly Piranha", which needed an 11mm hole. I had to get a new drill bit, but they've held excellently.

  • I think I know the answer to this, but anyway...

Is there anything you can do to prevent this design from splitting when out doors.

We picked up an ex-demo garden sofa and chairs set for cheap, and it's made from Acacia, but using this cheapo method.

As the suns out I've given it a top up with furniture oil over whatever shit finish was on it, and am comfortable with it fading and splitting a bit, but want to protect it as best I can.

  • Besides the top cap being loose, what needs fixing with them. That apparently can't be fixed?

If you undo the two screws that are partly hidden by the edge of the door, the front cover can be slid across and removed. Use an Allen key to adjust the door across if required.

These are available in caramel colour, but not gold like yours were originally.
Hopefully enough measurements here to determine if they may be a good match

  • What is this layer of material under the tiles here? Some kind of board?

  • Buy larger than required at Screwfix and then cut down to size? That's why I ended up doing.

  • Is in not just more tiles? It might be fire board or asbestos

  • No, it's a different material to the slate, and is certainly bigger.

I hadn't considered it could be asbestos.

  • We have something similar above a gabled window. I've not touched it to mess with it so no idea what it is.

  • It looks like the asbestos board that our soffit were made from. But it might be non-asbestos cement boards.

  • @stevo_com (or anyone else for that matter) what did you use to clean the cigarette stains from your upvc windows?

  • Sugar soap, white vinegar, elbow grease, prayers, tears.

  • Finishing stairs.
Someone mentioned masking, and with the top coat paint it was quicker and easier to mask, let’s see if I’ve messed it up when I pull off the tape.
Going to roller main bits of stairs, let’s see if that comes up nicer than a brush would.

  • If you can still get it at your local screwfix, the No Nonsense cleaner has been my go to. A light scrub with a paintbrush to get into any seams and corners then wipe off with a microfiber.

If there's only the new Essentials stuff, a bowl of hot soapy water will be just as good!
