• I just looked at your dropouts and it does look like if you can find an axle plate that fits you might be able to just put a bolt in one of the eyelets

    I’ll do a bit more googling and should be able to find the dimensions of the axle plate.

  • Looks like 39.9mm between axle centre and peg/bolt is the ideal but this

    Suggests there’s a bit of wiggle room on that.

    Edit: Actually that’s the pm axle plate to go with the pm bone. The oem axle player doesn’t look like like it has such a deep slot for locating on the ‘peg’ so will likely need to be pretty bang on that 39.9mm dimension.

  • Flat bracket with two fixed holes that the mudguard eyelets attach to, and one slotted hole on a angle that you can slide a bolt up and down until it intersects with the path of the most likely axle plate. v similar to what I did. Unless you get lucky with the 39.9mm

  • bought a nexus hub'd wheel on here but didn't come with the non-turning washers or cap nuts

    anyone got some laying about i can buy?

    it's the 5l/5r i need i believe, but also happy to be pointed to something similar/cheaper as don't fancy paying £20 for the full kit

  • I've picked up a Gates front chainring but looking to get the cranks for it. Struggling to find the Gates CDX S550 as cranks only or even crankset for a reasonable price. Based on this photo/listing they're just rebadged FSA Comet cranks, is that right? Would that make it easier to find/pickup the cranks on they're own somewhere

    Alternatively - this photo is the ring I have bought, is that FSA direct mount fitting, so feasibly any FSA DM crankset will work, or will I need to consider chainline for Rohloff?

    Very much. Why have you gone for the direct mount pulley? A 4 or 5 bolt might make your life easier.

  • Honestly, those Gates S550 cranksets are the only ones I've seen (so far) that I've liked the look of. Any recommendations for 4 or 5 bolt ones that look nice?

  • Aesthetics is personal I guess. I used HT2 cranksets when I had a belt. Old Ultegra and then Zee.

  • Having recently gotten interested in pinion setups, is it possible to stack like a pinion and an igh? or is this as stupid as it sounds? basically the 6 speeds are extremely cheap compared to anything else.

  • Don’t really have any idea if that would work but I’d be wary of extremely high torques imploding the internals of the rear hub

  • Would an unserviced Rohloff jump under power? Not sure if it’s the box or the chainrings worn too much with new chain.

    Just clunking when you put down power standing up but not when you sit and spin!

  • Sounds like what my colleagues did after a couple big tours and zero maintenance.

    Rohloff said his was out of warranty and that repair cost was likely to be about 95% the cost of a new hub. In the end he was without it for a very long time, it was unclear whether this was the fault of Rohloff or the intermediary dealer that he went through (I could hazard a guess!) but it was fixed and returned all at no cost.

    During the process of him communicating with rohloff about it I opened the hub up to see if there was anything obvious and it was a joy to work on compared to an alfine so it’s doubly frustrating that spares support for anything beyond the cover plate is basically zero.

  • I had to send a wheel off to Rohloff a while ago and it took almost a year to get back to me (and was missing the tyre when it did). Was the intermediary your colleague used based in London? I'm also unsure as to whether the delay was down to the dealer I used or Rohloff themselves!

  • I thought it might be. Unless we both used useless middle men, it sounds like Rohloff like to drag their feet!

  • I’ve definitely experienced the guy that my colleague dealt with saying something would take a day or two and a month later I had to go and take it back off him to send it elsewhere as it hadn’t been looked at.
