Fitted a new Pike Ultimate to my Tarn and it rips. Have used bikepacking with a full carbon fork too.
Best upgrades have been the SQLab inner bar ends and XC tyres. Still running 10spd SLX but benefit of cheap parts.
Might go 29er next year.

Built this Volare 853 for my housemate, it has had a nice respray, a Nukeproof headset and the original buyer sprang for the Enve fork
I wish there were more of these frames kicking around. They’re sick. I want one in 54 cm

631 equilibrium disc, no rack mounts on the seat stays. Has anyone faced this? Got a mate trying to set up commuter. 3 options I can see
1) framebuilder to braze some on 2) seat collar with rack mounts 3) some kind of rack which for a bike without the mounts

4) front rack?

4) single arm rear rack a-la Tubus Fly that attaches at the brake bridge. I’ve got one on a genesis equilibrium (not photoed), works great.
Or P clips…

Looks like an ideal option as the top strut clamps around the seat post? Easy to remove when not needed too! -

Ortlieb Quick Rack would be great for this
@RodKimble beat me to it

What are the thoughts on Genesis's current Day One? I'm thinking a hub geared, practical bike could be what I need for commuting in a hilly city. I'd rather have steel frame than alu, but otherwise seems to be fit for purpose.

I always thought they were steel! Shows what I know. Were older models or am I just completely wrong?
-
• #1688
Yep older models, including the OG orange with Alfine, were steel. First we're Reynolds, then they changed to something else (Mjölnir). I didn't even realise they had aluminium Day Ones now

I used a Carradice Super C SQR to commute on an equilbrium

As a very easy option p clips work well, have done some touring in the past with some fitted to my equilibrium with a standard rack carrying a fair amount of weight

I did this with mine too, works a charm

great suggestions here!

And you'll be sorting the handlebars out soon, yes?

Haha that pic is a few years old. I noticed the state of them after I posted it. They've been sorted since, but those levers are a nightmare.

Bump time - picked this up for commuting duties after consolidating a couple of bikes (don't need a couple of grand's worth of bike sitting gathering dust when a 200 quid one will collect just as much, and i'm not paranoid about locking this up outside)
2017 Flyer - pretty much stock apart from the 32c GK slicks, Tektro RRL levers to replace the distinctly unpleasant stock ones (BDHU), a Fabric saddle & some very minimal but shiny Exustar spds.
Wasn't too enamoured with the black/white colour scheme at first, but the "black" decals are crazy reflective so it's growing on me.Brake calipers aren't the greatest but they'll do for now - can't remember if i'd get away with normal drop calipers maxed out or if i'd need long drops? Anyway - that's problem for another day, main thing is it rides really nice & in my head actually feels lighter that my old 2018 Flyer did...

One gear? Are you mad?
-
• #1697
Don't worry, i'm not actually going to ride it!
Nah, it's all good - there are absolutely no hills between my house & work so it's fine - i'm also using a freewheel instead of fixed, i'm not completely mental

mudguards?
-
• #1699
I have a pair of sks that will fit but probably not over these tyres, will see if I miss them before deciding - there is still a surprising amount of clearance with the 32s though
It's just under 20 miles each way to work & I got fed up of commuting in the rain a few years ago so I tend to pick & chose my days now - a bold strategy in the West of Scotland perhaps but hey ho!

ah, nice! i did a bikepacking trip around galloway forest park area a few years ago with a couple of mates.
absolutely stunning scenery. deffinitely want to go back some day.
not sure i'd brave it single speed though!i'm guessing your commute is along the coast if there are no hills for 20 miles?
The group don’t look to have invested anything in the brand for over 2 years. Shame.
