  • Interesting! Thanks for sharing.

I have a response from BETD too. It's polite and informative, but doesn't specifically answer the question of replacing the axle on the RO2 cranks I have. Instead they recommend (three times! for three different reasons!) I use RS8s.

I'm officially abandoning my attempt to create White Industries A30 alternative using things I have in the cellar. I hope you have better luck!

  • If Blue Lug were obsessed with niche Euro (Brexit didn't happen in this world, so Middleburn counts) bike brands mood board (@Maj ?) every bike would look like this, except maybe with Dugast tyres because why not. Great work.

  • Fair enough, at least you tried! Hopefully our exchange will help someone who does a key word search on this niche topic in the future. Unless the chain derails or sounds bad, I will probably make do with a slightly off chainline. Will report back in the coming weeks!

  • Thanks! Funny you mention niche Euro, a symmetric Hulsroy cage would look great on the ST. I have a trusty v.1 Widefoot LitreCage for the DT already.

  • vibes are electric, can imagine this on the wall of a young blue lugs mechanics studio, spending all night researching the import fees for a thorn from someone who watches gb news 20 hours a day

  • a lot going on here

  • Narrative worthy of printing & laminating. Yaxley-Lennon fever dream mood board fr

  • Dugast tubulars you mean..

  • It’s the high vis commuting dad that won me over. Those heroes padding around Tesco buying a meal deal in a stained Altura jacket and smart trousers normalise cycling.

Back on topic, what meal deal would you place on your artisan rack, @Browndonneur?

  • Endless possibilities, but probably this contrarian combo (with a Tesco clubcard neatly stowed in a translucent dyneema wallet from Blue Lug):

  • So it appears 110mm was a decent stem length estimation. I quite like the whimsical Zipp clash. My go-to straight line saddle tip to grip area measurement is about 55cms, about 1cm less then the Big Dummy, but will see how it goes.

And even with the stem "slammed" like this, the 50mm rise puts the bars ~1cm higher than the saddle. Should be fine. I do like how the Shazam sits perfectly there. Hydro routing might be tricky, will find out soon.

  • Hydro routing might be tricky, will fine out soon.

Perfect excuse to get a Gramm Diamond bag.

  • Leave the hoses long and have them come up and down behind the bar?

That stem looks much better here than in product photos.

  • gravel wall paper is a nice touch, bike looks good too

  • @Tijmen, there's something about those bags that I don't love. Not sure what it is really. And that's coming from someone who can't stand flaccid bags, so I'll give them that.

@MisterMikkel, for sure. If I can avoid having to trim hoses, I will! This bag and rack were originally supposed to be for infrequent bikepacking overnighters, but I might just leave them both on permanently? Not sure yet.

@maj this was supposed to be the nursery, lol. 6years and two co-sleeping kids later I realise the error of my ways and it's now my WFH box.

Slammed eh? Does that mean you're chopping the steerer?

  • Can't bring myself to chop it right down! Will add 1cm above and below for wiggle room, and in case I decide to drop bar it in the future with one of these stems or similar.

  • There's this other brand in Germany that makes a slightly more traditional rando bag that can be made with Allygn compatible mounting...

  • Aren’t Restrap made in Yorkshire? ;)

  • Turns out the 25deg Somas are too swoopy, and feel cramped, even with a 110mm stem. The 12deg CowCows are great, but 80mm rise is too high given the already stacky frame. Going to try some Stooge Motos, 17deg sweep and 38mm rise. And watching a couple of Thomson stems on eBay in the meanwhile, minus 10deg rise would be perfect.

  • Front derailer installed, chainline seems fine. Careful L-screw adjustment to stop cage contacting the chainstay, but no issues with throw. Gap between cage and big ring seems OK so far, time will tell.
