Ha, the spindle AFAIK is factory bonded to the NDS arm and removing it is futile from what research has taught me, and aligns with this:

I'm waiting for Middleburn/BETD to get back to me about swapping the axle on some RO2 cranks. I was hoping it would be possible if I post the cranks back to them. Will let you know if/when they respond.

Interesting, thanks!

Why do they make/sell seperate spindles if its not meant to be disassembled

TRP recommend using thicker 2.3mm rotors for tandems, I would like to try using Spyres/Spykes with some 2.3mm 180mm rotors and flat bars to see how the braking is. I have found the newer Spyre SLCs better than the older standard versions.
I'm sure you will be very happy with shimano hydraulics though.

Do you write copy for a living?

Lol, I’m in the legal sector :)

You’ve gone for Shimano Basics™️ brakes so surely the ego death option would be a Deore or non groupset level ht2 double crankset?
Spa square tapers seems more retrogrouchiness or cutting your nose off to spite your face.
-
• #136
That’s fair, tho from a retrogrouch perspective this bike will have a front derailer DT shifter and a frame strap. I had to google HT2! The 2x Deores are nice, I guess the whole square taper, wide-range double with a chainguard setup has a familiarity bias as I have that setup on my Overbury’s:

Hope so! I watched a few GCN videos last night about how to go about shortening hoses and attaching olives etc. Should be nice to learn something new. If/when you’re after some new Spyke calipers only, let me know.

I have something in the works I want a 46/30 but I just can't stomach the look of that 50.4 spider. I think I'll end up with a Rotor Aldhu.

Such good taste in framesets, such questionable taste in cranksets!

@Tijmen, forgot to hit reply
I have one of those OEM rotor 46/30 jobbies that came on grzls during the great COVID part shortage of which many are flogged on kleinanzeigen because they now want full grx (shudder, crankset is ugly as sin).
I like the utilitarian aesthetic of the spider. That faux aero spider on aldhus with a 46/30 chainrings is a misplaced look imo.

But on the subject of pretty 46/30 chainsets I now have a project in the works with a deanodised Cannondale si crankset and opi spider.
Getting it to work with a bsa30 BB and finding out the right axle length (125mm, trust me) was a bit of a faff but worth it.

Sorry for spamming your thread btw Zahir @Browndonneur, I sometimes get carried away..
As previously said, it's quite weird they offer separate axles for Middleburns though if they are factory bonded.
Indeed worth pursuing and investigating the options.
Those Middleburns are indeed very pretty. I'ld bite your hand off for them if I was on the isles and actually had a biek to put them on. -
• #145
Btw, middleburn probably still does square taper options don't they? It'ld be the golden middle!

Funny enough, I have a square taper 46/30 Middleburn chainset on my Clandestine, with TA rings. The perfect match for that rig.
Middleburn do indeed still do square tapers, but £££ compared to the Spas!

The Cannondale option definitely looks good, but it's a bit too rich for my blood. I've seen those OEM Rotors, but if I'd go down that path I'd get Easton EA90s instead.

OK so I found 3x 2.5mm BB spacers in my box of bits, here you can see the position with 1x 2.5mm spacer on each BB cup. I know I’m supposed to use 2x spacers on the DS but, for chainline’s sake, does it really matter if I don’t when there’s plenty of NDS lockring thread engagement to take up the slack? Or is this a ‘cycling 101’ type breach of etiquette?

Are you getting a kickstand for it?

I think it’d be rude not to! I got on well with the Pletscher, probably the same again.
U mad bro?! Middleburns are one of the prettiest cranksets out there, they're perfect for the build! And that 30 quid axle up there will solve your chainline problems right away!
