I'm still debating what to put in this M08 chassic. ESC space looks very tight.

Depends on what you want to do with it. Obviously the M08 is a class above and suitable for racing, but my M05 pro is a blast with just a silver can, HW1060 and 2s lipo.

I’d like to give racing a go, in time, tbh. I think there’s a club in Molesey which isn’t quite on the doorstep, but I could catch a train to.

I think clubs normally have rules on what motors you can use for each class, so if you want to race, give them a call and they'll advise.

I'm looking to get an electric buggy, ideally a kit I can enjoy building. What is going to be the most fun to drive? Tamiya BBX, Hobao Hyper VS2e (comes partially built I know), Kyosho something? Not looking to race it, just have some fun.

Can't comment on the others, but the BBX is great fun. I believe the Kyosho Dirtmaster is also retro-styled buggy, but made with modern plastics and will hold up well to bashing/messing around (not stupid jumps off concrete skate ramps). The other classic Kyoshos are apparently lovely buggies to build and drive, but maybe a bit more expensive for just messing around?

It's rerelease of the RB6(IIRC) racing buggy but with cheaper materials and a retro shell.

It looks retro compared to contemporary long wheelbase cab forward laydown transmission things but it's modern.

Super smooth motor and ESC combo. Good quality as well.

You’ll probably want to run it on a LiPo battery so you can supply enough amps.

Just floated the idea of a racing slot at the church hall. My background was 1:10th buggies but wondering what would be the class with the lowest barrier to entry - some kind of mini stock on road? Or Tamiya TT02 racing?

Mardave and Kamtec minis are traditionally the cheapest racing classes.

Mmm. I wonder if M-05 chassis stuff would be a better bet simply because the construction and shells are more interesting for similar outlay.

1:10 buggies are probably the most accessible because everyone knows about them. They give you flexibility on the surface they run on. The issue with those will be the disparity between handling, so making actual racing fair between cars will be difficult even if you all use the same motors and batteries.

As @Alex_B said, Kamtec and Mardave ministocks have always been the cheapest way in. They’re more obscure to people and you’ll need a decent surface. However, racing will be equal between cars, the cars are designed to take a beating, huge range of bodies, easy to add outlaw classes and banger meets etc etc. You won’t need a massive track or space to use them.

Halls not big enough for 1:10 imho - 1/12 on road is probably the safest bet, but the flat pan cars are both as expensive as the M-05 stuff and far more rudimentary (I pitched this as a STEM thing, so I'd hope we'd use something with at least a geared diff!).

Put some electrics in a TT01 I had kicking about and will bring it down for a test drive this Sunday.

But any TT class is super easy and cheap to get involved in and a lot of fun.

Advantage of trucks is that its better if there is contact.:)

I think with M05, its possible they may be discontinued in the near future for the MB01 and parts may become scarce, but yeah M chassis racing could be good, doesn't have to be Tamiya. The 3racing chassis are cheap and fast.

Never thought I’d put a motor in this tt01 but ragging it around an empty church hall was too good to miss. chucked a silly brushless motor in it and had a blast. Much sideways action on the crappy stock tyres.

Been working on a Porsche GT3 cup too!

Bought the body set ages ago, not realising that it was 251mm wheelbase. I had a TT02 Type S, that I wanted to get it on (257mm wb), did lots of googling without much luck on how to get the chassis down to 251mm. Took a punt on trying the TRF 418 rear reversible arms, which brought it down to about 253mm. Also had to trim some edges on the uprights to get it all to move freely, but its looking ok. Still need to trim the body posts, fit some lights and maybe change the wheels, but its getting there.

I was looking at the XV02 yesterday, although I might wait for the XM01 to come out later in the year. Fancy an M Chassis 4wd and the MF01 doesn't cut it
