What about the ‘wild ride’ bit?
It should translate to ‘it’s been a year of no catering on long-distance trains’ but I suspect they are not highlighting that particular feature. -

I caught myself thinking how useful it would be to subscribe to Radio Times. FML.

Got my bowel cancer screening letter back yesterday. Always a frisson of 'Oh fuck' when receiving anything through the post with the NHS letterhead these days, but my arse and adjacent areas are clear for another two years.
All of which apparently doesn't make the best voice note to your girlfriend at work when she has employees around her 😆

congrats on the arse all clear.

For myself, i'm now on blood pressure tablets. 2.5 mg Ramipril once a day.
Warned that they may give me a dry cough and I can confirm that they certainly fucking do.
I think its also causing the extreme tiredness I've been feeling.
-

So, Ramipril was a bastard.
Started with a tickly cough (they warned me about that), but was accompanied by extreme tiredness. By the end of the week, i had stomach pain (lasted for 1.5 days) and was wheezing walking up the stairs so had to stop taking it. The morning after I stopped, all side effects were gone (so assume it was tablets). Now spoken to the doc and have been prescribed amlopidine instead.

I am 57 today
How this happened is still a mystery
More so how I manage to keep going all this week digging holes, lifting concrete slabs, cutting and banking turf and generally doing exhausting diy-based shit -
• #2909
!Feliz cumpliaños! Keeping active is the key. Though 58 might be a different story
-
• #2910
Ha ha! Will keep going and report back in a year, thank you :)

You've learnt to pace yourself.

• #2912
Congratulations.
Only three more years until you can graduate to this thread.
-
• #2913
There’s something to that, but having acquired ( eh?) the skill (determination? Experience?) of ‘doing things slowly as they’re still be there tomorrow’ the rest of annoying life meantime demands getting all the house-based stuff done NOW lol

Reported for gratuitous thread dredging. I was the last person to comment on that thread several years ago. I'm still not dead.
-
• #2915
Ha ha! Maybe I’ll make it
-
• #2916
Haha i’m four years away from that thread.. let’s hope we all make it.

Congrats man! Isn't it funny knowing that you were born closer to start of WW1 than 2024 ?
I do wonder when does the 'middle age' start these days though, for our parents it was 50, not so sure it is same today, so I think anyone under 55 should really look to contribute on some other threads 😀
I have a year before I can do it on one andyp has dropped a link to. -

There’s a sobering thought

Remember how old you thought Sergeant Pepper's was when Nevermind came out? That's like looking back at Kid A today.

Two older fellows at work had sudden declines in cognitive function and health. Both in mid seventies. Both very fit and good workers and they completely lost it in a few months.
One got pulled over by cops on his way to work and they took his license away on the spot.
The other put gasoline in a diesel truck twice.
Sad ways to end your employment.
Enjoy your fitness and mental health while you can, and know when it’s time to go.
It is rather poorly written.
