  • Except that the lever doesn't allow you to raise the bread very high. So if you're toasting artisanal homemade sour dough you can enjoy trying to play Operation every time to get bread out.

  • Sage smart oven surely - can do 6 slices of bread but can also roast a chicken, air fry, dehydrate... Plus has a crumpet setting where it does one side more

  • It's amazing looking at the user feedback, that after 130yrs of toaster development there are still such fundamental flaws in toaster design.

One of the worst offenders is the 2 slice design. For something that only serves 13% of the population they are vastly over represented.

  • Would also like to be able to turn off one slot when going solo

  • I am now fearful I have to Google for “smart toaster” to discover someone has made a toaster, controlled by an app but that none of the fundamental issues with toasters are addressed or solved by adding a phone into the toasting routine.

It really shouldn’t be too difficult, even toasting, can accommodate different loaf shapes and slice widths, can eject easily without destroying or crushing the item.

We have the dualit toaster but the slots can barely accommodate a crumpet, rather than lift the item up it levers from one side so it crushes things like hot cross buns, and after initial use it so so hot that if trying to toast bread from frozen it can burn the outside but the middle is still cool.

  • You know what? Fuck immigration and the NHS.

Proper investment in toaster R&D backed up by a strong regulatory framework with teeth is the policy area govt needs to focus on.

Clearly the private sector isn't working. It is time for the State to intervene.

  • I want some motherfuckers to approach producing toasters like these guys do for stereos. A toaster with true pride of ownership and heritage. Swiss watch style advertising. Pass it on to your grandkids.

  • I don't want to sound arrogant here but the Breville toaster I chose does all of these things. Fits a full slice of white loaf, fits crumpets and hot cross buns without issue, lifts stuff up high so you can get smaller things out, it's got the lot.

The only thing it is missing is a little fold out thing so you can sit croissants and stuff on top and heat them up.

As for 4 slice toasters, by the time you get round to buttering slice 4 it's cold meaning your butter doesn't melt.

  • Sounds like a good idea but not sure how it would work with toddler who likes to play with them (although I guess she hasn't smashed any plates yet).

  • You can buy sheets of self-adhesive felt pads that you can stick on the underside - Stops them scratching up tables, and when you your toddler drops them, they crack but don't smash.

  • Of course the pro hipster LFGSS minimalism design bro approach would be to not have a toaster at all and just use the grill - or a magnifying glass.

  • Once again, shout out to the best toaster ever

    • fully stainless - built like tank
    • fully mechanically - no stupid blue lights or wifi
    • individual control of the slots
    • UK family owned company
    • fully repairable, even comes with spare elements and you can buy spares from them
    • big slots
    • big elements so you get very even toasting, almost like under the grill

They are chonky though, so you do need to be a commited toast-head to want one, they're not for jonny-come-lately fair-weather toast ejoyers

  • That being said, I have always fancied trying one of these

  • but £143.99 to toast some bread. makes toast a very expensive option for your supper
a few years ago you could buy a 2nd hand car for that kind of money

dj ... you're not helping with your buy an aga option ! get ye to the golf club thread ... again

  • asda for me next...with a slice of jacksons in my pocket

aggi's breville only seems available through amazon so thats out. i'll see if any other brevilles are available in electrical shops on the high street.

  • Bro. Breville has zero social cachet. No one wants to hear about whether or not it is functionally superior to premium brands, or whether they'll still be going after >7yrs despite you taking it apart that one time and reversing the magnets.

  • The concept has survived two toddlers in our house.

You just have to make sure they don't bang the sharp corners on your wooden dining table.

  • You just have to make sure they don't bang the sharp corners on your wooden dining table.

    This is the main concern.

  • Child #1 is a fairly "omg why are you doing that! What are you thinking?!?" sort of child and it's been fine.

Otherwise gift your partner a set with nice photos on them for Xmas. Or suggest to your in-laws that you'd like a set for Xmas.

  • here you go

  • Naim worked along those lines many years ago when I applied to work for them

  • I trawled through the first three pages (of 6) of search results and couldn’t find anything. The bottom left one of our basic-bitch electric hob has stopped working. The outside ring heats/lights up but the inner one doesn’t. Everything else works (touch wood) and I don’t have any money to get anything better/pay much for service. My question is are these things fixable? Is it easy? I assume it means lifting the unit out at minimum… oh frick

  • I'm no expert on hobs at all but it sounds like the ring is made up of two elements and the inner one has gone. Before going any further I'd google whether replacement elements are available.

As to if it's fixable or not, I'd be surprised if these were designed to be user serviceable, but that doesn't mean it can't be fixed of course. Good luck...

  • Came here to moan about Beko quality, or lack of. My Mum asked me to look at her Beko fridge freezer at the weekend as 'something had fallen off the top of the freezer section and it was held on with Blu Tack'.

She's in her 70s, and obviously freezer manufacturers don't use Blu Tack, so I took the Blu Tack bit with a pinch of salt. Turned out the air temperature sensor is within a little plastic cage at the top which clips in. Said clips are not well designed - at all - so it fell off. She's added some 'extra Blu Tack' within the little plastic cage thing to try and keep it on, but that didn't work so she used sticky tape.

On clearing out the Blu Tack my Mum had added to the little plastic cage, I found perfectly formed, clearly factory-fitted, perfect little squares of...

    Blu Tack.

So yeah, Beko literally hold their fridge freezers together with Blu Tack when they make design errors. I will not be purchasing any Beko appliances for my new kitchen!

  • thanks for the advice Fox!! we ave a beko fridge freezer, new in 2008, the seal on the fridge went ages ago and is now a sloppy saggy mess. I tracked down one for the freezer bit but not the fridge bit, impossible to find
