  • An extractor fan doesn’t have to be above a hob, it’s kind of just where people expect to see it. Invariably people misread the manual and install them at their minimum height above the hob which is why they are at forehead or eye level for taller people.

You could look at a ceiling cooker hood.

  • Cheers, will look at that.

  • I also have one, was fortunate to get it before inflation really kicked in. Harder to recommend at RRP, but it's a nice thing to have and gets used a lot.

Most recent thing was pressure cooking baking potatoes and then crisping the skins with 10 min on the air fryer mode. It's definitely versatile.

Also they're big. Not a deal-breaker but by far the biggest kitchen countertop appliance we have and it was a bit of a surprise at first, so definitely try and get a sense for that too

  • Yep, realistically you want to leave it on the worktop to get the best use but they are pretty substantial.

I'd say the ninja one is better as the lid is on a hinge so you don't need to find somewhere to put it when you're turning stuff or whatever.

  • my old russell hobbs 4 slice toaster broke so upgraded to a newer version of the russelll hobbs 4 slice

slices of bread won't fit in the new one ... hopefully argos will accept it back .. it's only 2 days old
when i put them in edgeways they poke out of the top

  • All toasters are shit these days. When my current cheapo one dies I'll try a rowlett

  • My 2 slice Dualit has been delivering toast since 1989. Way before the likes of Habitat were selling them. The only maintenance I've done to it is to mount the timer on rubber grommets in a (successful) attempt to get it to stop from resonating through the ally casting and shut the fuck up.

  • I had one of the modern dualits. It was a £70 disposable pos

  • I don't doubt it. Mine came from an era when Dualit were a catering equipment supplier. I think I paid ~£50.00 for it in the late 80's.
ETA - A Rowlett may be a better bet these days.

  • i've bought a few bosch kitchen bits over the last few years and they've always been well made and good quality

think i'll try the bosch designline toaster next

    https://www.bosch-home.co.uk/product-list/kettles-toasters/toasters/TAT5P440GB#/Togglebox=manuals/

  • for fucks sake the bosch won't take a full slice of bread either
just like the russell hobbs a slice of jacksons won't fit in sideways or length ways
loads of extra chrome all around the top but the slice won't fucking fit in... i despair

what bread do they use for their sizing, some fancy german pumpernikel / rye bread rather than a manly full sized english slice

  • You clearly need one of these for pwoper bri'ish bread.

  • there are three inches of wasted space by the looks of it, two on the control side and 1 on the backside

^ ................................................... ^ what the fuck have they filled this space up with, surely it should be used for bread capacity rather than design

or if they didn't have that small fancy insert in the space where the bread should go they'd fit a proper slice of bread in it

  • It's bizarre how few toasters take a full slice of bread. I got one of these because of that
    https://jsgamilton.com/product/breville-vtt570-warburton-2-slice-toaster/

  • was thinking you were gonna post a picture of a sharp knife to cut off the excess bread !

  • I hesitate to say this in case it breaks, but our breville takes 4x normal bread and works fine.

  • That's why baguette toasters are the shit, no type of bread is too big.

  • You don't cut the crusts off? Heathen.

This is ridiculous though. Good luck with your seemingly impossible. toaster search.

  • In less exciting kitchen chat, and not really appliances, any recommendations for hard-wearing table mats and coasters that don't cost a bomb?

  • Let's be honest that's not a standard chorleywood loaf

  • If you're not fussed about your coasters matching, go to your local tops tiles and look for a cheap box of square tiles, then put sticky felt pads on the back.

    Charity shops for mats.

  • Same happened to me - even cut out a bread shaped piece of cardboard and started testing it in the shops. Asda's own brand was the clear winner for me in the end

Or buy an aga and toast directly on one of the hot plates

Or just use a hot dry skillet

Or make your own bread to a size that fits your toaster

  • I picked our Sage toaster for the Longboi Slot Technology™️

    it good

  • I love our 4 slot sage but if I did it again I'd do this.
