Lovely day in Manchester.

based on the path of the damage we've seen this tornado missed both the house we're currently renting and the new house we're moving into in 6 days by less than about 100m.
my mum is visiting and i was going to ask her to move her car from the spot she'd used earlier in the day to outside our place so i could load some heavy stuff into it to drive to the new house but got distracted doing other stuff and the car that was in the spot instead when it hit had the entire passenger side windows knocked out by flying ceiling tiles
suddenly not feeling so bad about not having had time to put up our new gazebo at the new place as it'd probably be in someone elses garden by now.

Oh wow, Sounds a strong one, T4 !
I'm guessing it was after dark and there'll be no footage or sight of a funnel -

bit moist out there today

Feel like the weather forecast of massive death and destruction has been hugely oversold in SE London, bit disappointed tbh. It's a bit windy and has been drizzling for a while. No biggie, would have cycled in.

Same. Massive downpour this morning stopped just before the school run so boiled in the bag after putting my waterproofs on for the ride there and back. Plenty of nice big puddles though and a lot of tree/leaf detritus knocking about.

It's due to hit London at about 3/4pm.
Has been downgraded on some models mind. -

It was mental at 0230

Believe it or not, there is a world outside SE London.
I think the storm tracked further south than originally thought, and Northern France and the Channel Islands took the brunt of it.

Even too windy for the Dutch Headwind cycling championships. https://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/dutch-headwind-championships-cancelled-due-to-high-winds
It has been a particularly challenging storm for forecasters as it developed and matured so close to the UK. The track was therefore more uncertain than most low pressure systems that cross the UK. I'm quite a fan of the Met Office deep dives on youtube. This one from about 8 mins is good on why this storm was a bit different and 12 mins on why it was hard to track accurately.

They can't win, downplay it and 87 happens again.

Got woken up by what I thought was someone spraying our bedroom window with a hose. Turned out to be weather.

I've heard of Sevenoaks, but I don't believe in it

No way. Sevenoaks is just a story for frightening London children into eating all their vegetables.

If I leave the triangle between A20, A21 and A205 I get a rash.

My parents in law in Normandy have been without power since last night, 100mph + winds.
Got news from them as one of them walked to a distant field where they caught some phone reception.Isle of Wight being an MVP again.

What is this man doing and why is he in the gallery of Storm Ciaran photos in the Grauniad?

Looks like he’s about to break a branch off and give his car a damn good thrashing, basil fawlty style.
-
• #9595
That is the actual Ciaran, God of the storm.

Doing a little digging, he’s actually a tree surgeon who, a couple of months back, took a look at the lufgus “dandy rigouts for manual labour” thread and got carried away.

Looks more like Scoble, tbh

Nice tailwind riding east across London this afternoon. Think I hit 30mph just casually pedalling at one point.
Mind you, this was in kit that still hadn’t dried from this morning.

Just passed Gritney Spears on my way up to Edinburgh, bit nippy out.
I've been watching the rain radar, solid non stop rain over Scotland like this since yesterday afternoon. Just keeps going
