there's definately some saharan dust in the air, went out this morning my sisters cars were spattered with dust after a very brief shower during the night, fine red dust

Wet in Derby and not even got to the worst of it yet, school just closed as worried about kids being able to get home with so many flooded roads

I've mostly avoided the news and weather all year, but seemingly this storm appears to be getting some people worried. Was it meant to hit the whole country? Because down here in the south east there's not a breath of wind, it's surprisingly dry, and I even managed to do some gardening earlier

No it's battering Scotland, Derby is about as far south as the Amber warning extends

Amber West line is pretty much over my house here in s.mcr. the river comes from Amber direction though so be interesting to see the level it reaches.

Well if Swindon is underwater then at least some positives have come of it

East Coast trainline near Grantham is also knacked. One of my colleagues is trying to work out how to get home to York.

And I am currently sitting on a train just outside Grantham going the other way from York to London.

Set off from York at 10.20 am.

I'd tell your colleague to start looking for digs in London for tonight.

Seems her plan is to get the train to Manchester and then try and go across from there.

Fuck me that's a brave move 😂

The village I went to school in flooded yesterday. 30 yrs ago in Geography we walked around the village looking at the new flood defence works that would prevent this ever happening again, and discussed how it just moved the problem downstream.
