  • You need different shifters for discs and rim, but that apart, everything else needed is the same, i.e. rear mech, battery, junction box, charger and cables.

  • different shifters for discs and rim

Depends if you're using mechanical or hydro discs.

  • Thanks all.

  • Last time I checked, it was the 21st century.

  • Di2 with cable discs is pure anti

  • Is there a Di2 friction setting so it can be used with Paul's Klampers?

  • Any source of the downtube shifter mount adapter in continental Europe that doesn't cost arm and a leg for shipping?

  • Just got some cheap alloy track rims secondhand, thought this was a crack at first but upon inspection it seems like the weld seam - would it be unsafe to ride this?

  • weld seam

They're not welded, they're either pinned or sleeved. There's a couple of hundred Newtons of hoop compression pushing the two ends together, so nothing to worry about.

  • Thanks as ever for answering all the inane queries. Building a bike has thrown up so many questions which I usually have a rough answer to but you never really want to fuck with 'maybe' when getting it wrong means possible dental implants and half a year of recovery..

  • How concerned should I be about the dent and accompanying bend in this stay? It looks like it’s been there for years but I don’t like how ‘creasy’ it looks. I’ve seen vids where stays are bent back with foot pressure and then realigned, but is that going to make the dent even worse? I could take it to a frame builder, but will that be throwing good money after bad?

  • All,

If I'm running a CX bike with a single chainring, is it workable to fit a double chainset using just a single chainring on the outside (with single chainring bolts) and know the chain alignment with the cassette would be OK?

    Thanks.

  • cable discs is pure anti

    ftfy

  • Yeah, that's what everyone was doing before the fancy new 1x cranks. See how it plays together in the big cog on the cassette Vs the little one and move to the inside ring position if needs be

  • I use a 41t NW chainring on the outside of some shimano HT2 cranks, works really well for me with the full range of my 11-32 cassette.

  • 41t NW chainring

    That doesn't seem possible.

  • I have two crank bolts one of which is longer. Quick google doesn’t seem to throw up any answers as to which goes on which side; does it make a difference?

  • If they both engage a decent amount of threads and neither bottom out, then no.

  • That doesn't seem possible.

    prototype innit

  • I am aware of SJS, but shipping is no bueno, hence continental part in a question

  • Downtube shifter mounts...
Just buy a used Campag Record one from your local eBay - 10Euro max. Use it for 10yrs then sell for a profit !

  • For bike mechanics in need of sympathy... Someone understands us ;-)

  • Campag Record

I was under impression that they are different interface from the shimano ones. Besides, local market has none of that hence back to square one of shipping dance. For same price I would rather have adapter that would fit different frames as these mr.control/origin8/problem solvers do.

  • I work with bikes and agree with almost everything he says, but if he talked to me in that tone in real life, I'd think he was an arsehole too
