  • Thanks for pointers @cornelius_blackfoot, @amey and @Jameo

  • any recommandation for drink/food in the orient that is greenwich, blackheath, charlton, etc ?
    impromptu chill bike ride tonight

how are you holding up @andyfallsoff ?

  • Looking for an anniversary restaurant with good vegetarian options. Nothing OTT, ideally nice and relaxed but with metal cutlery and no bullshitery.

    Ideal Locations:

    • West Hampstead
    • Kings Cross
    • Faringdon

    Also happy with exclusively veggie.

  • Hoppers in KX is very good and quite different food. Hoppers, Dosas, Rice, Roast, Kothu & Arrack inspired by Sri Lanka and South India.

  • Talking of west hampstead - has anyone ever been here http://osteriaovada.com/

Rode past it the other day and it looked wonderful but not super cheap so would like to know if it's good before heading there.

And a random find last week - an incredible columbian restaurant in the market at the archway road end of seven sisters road https://goo.gl/maps/eNN3dnsHh322DDsX8 . Super cheap, tiny and brilliant. Will be heading there again this weekend.

  • We had a very leisurely lunch on Monday at Trullo. Really bloody good.

  • Fallow isn't really near any of those places, but it's not too hard to reach from any of them and it's so good it's probably worth a detour.

It's fancy and clever but they do things like burgers and it's delicious.

  • I thought Fallow was excellent when I went there. I'd definitely go for lunch though as it's pretty much the same menu but way cheaper.

  • Colombian place looks interesting - might venture down there.

Pedantic point - it's Holloway Rd at that point rather than Archway

  • yes, my office is in the area so have been there regularly for years.

other local interesting exotic places to check out in my experience : Xian impression ( seems pretty popular these days ), Mukkebi (korean), Dilara (Uyghur/Turkish)

  • I had heard that Nag's Head market is pretty good nowadays.
    There's also this opening upstairs

I've not been there for about twenty years so need to have a look sometime.

  • Junction market is also a reasonable lunch option there. mainly deliveroo dark kitchens but the malay guy in there knows his stuff and does a legitimate laksa or mee goreng. Dosa place next to him is also good.

  • On the subject of dark kitchens Popeyes was a revelation. I’m coming back as a biscuit so I can be dunked in that gravy.

  • My sister is on town and staying near Gt Portland St tube.
Anyone got any restaurant recco's in the area.
The only places round there I can think of (Caravan, Sergio's) are a bit naff

  • Clipstone is excellent - strong recommendation from me.

  • What sort of stuff is she in to?

Can recommend Bang Bang Vietnamese kitchen as well as Mestizo Mexican just around the corner for cheaper places.

  • Clipstone.
    Sold.

    Will report back

  • Clipstone is great, Portland also good (and as the name suggests in the vicinity)

  • I'm taking my mum for a birthday meal at the weekend. She lives near Bracknell.
For anyone who lives in the Maidenhead area, I've booked the Pinkney's Arms.
I've driven past loads of times and always thought it looked good but the reviews are quite polarised which is worrying me a bit.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a nice ish (but not too fancy because she's not a fan) place in the Maidenhead/Bracknell area? Open to any cuisine.
    Cheers!

  • Clipstone and Portland both good.

There's also 64 Goodge St, from the same group, which has just opened to very good reviews.

  • Any recommendations for somewhere to grab a quick bite close to the Shepherds Bush Empire. Talking pre-gig vibes, so need to be in and out in less than 90mins and certainly not after anything fancy. But nice would be nice and interesting would be even better.

    Cheers

  • Esarn Khaew all day long.

    Beef panang is fucking excellent.

  • This looks absolutely perfect mate, thank you! Don't suppose you know if you need to reserve etc?

  • Not normally - there's usually a table free but you can book online so I would just in case.

The owner, Thames, is a bit off the wall but it adds to the experience.

  • Sweet, have booked.
