dunno; homeopathy, could help!

Drip oil onto your chain.
Throw the chain in the bin.
Install new chain.
Your acid reflux will be cured. -

Electronic gear curious here. I’m not fussed on shimano or sram.
Can you run a 1X set up with just climbing (or whatever they’re called) buttons? Or do you need the levers? If you do could you strip them down to just electronic bits and hide the bits inside a stem maybe the frame?
Just thinking out loud, as winter will soon be with us and my hand will stop working again. -

You need the levers. There may be a hack workaround.

Yes. My P5 is run solely off a single hacked SW-R600 with flying leads soldered to the contact patches.

SW-R610 Sprinter switches need the levers. The SW-R600 is a fully fledged shifter in its own right and doesn't need levers. I believe the SW-R9150 levers can also be used as standalone levers, but I've never tried using them myself.

As @Brommers has said, you can use the SW-R600 as a standalone shifting system. I have a cross bike with them on TRP Hylex hydraulic brakes, which you can get adaptors for that allow you to fit them into the shifter itself. Originally I had just one in the right hand shifter, but I've now got one in each shifter, right hand side has both buttons set up to change up a gear, left hand side has them set up to change down a gear.

I think you can just use remote buttons with Sram AXS

Those SW-R9150 look trick! and it looks like they could be made to work. Hmmmm, stares into rabbit hole.

Similar to my 1x cross bike setup. R875 levers, but both buttons on the right hand shifter go up a gear, both buttons on the LHS go down a gear.

But then wireless would be nice.

• #5813
It would be for a rim brake bike so that sounds good. Oh my head is already spinning…
-
• #5814
Nope. With SRAM you still need a blip box if you aren’t running levers. Easy enough to hide in the frame though.
-
• #5815
So you can run remote AXS buttons without levers then, you could also just use the AXS Eagle shifter pod without levers?
-
• #5816
Yes, no levers needed. I don’t know if you can run the Eagle pod with a 2x setup.

Can't say, not working ATM. It does look too jumpy to be in the big ring, but someone should compare it back to back with another one to see if that's normal.

Nobody suggested drilling another spring hole in the cage... Probably a piece of piss with a drill press and quite difficult without one
-

it is definitely something i would consider doing! i also cleaned off a lot of the grease before reinstalling.. might have helped a bit too

I got sick of wondering why nobody has reverse-engineered Di2...
One of those blokes with a Di2 website had half a crack at it, but as far as I know, nobody's finished the job.
So I bought a cheapo digital oscilloscope; hopefully it has the necessary range... Just have to learn to use it now. Oh, and I need half an E-tube cable.
Then I have to bust out my very rusty and limited Arduino skills. Hopefully it's enough to catch the eye of an actual engineer who can take it beyond mere shifter replacement to re-flashing derailers to shift however we like.
Don't suppose anyone has a damaged cable lying around? Those things are expensive.

I've got a couple that might be buggered that I swapped out of the Mason.

Im fairly certain that I once stumbled upon a guy who not only reverse engineered it, he was making custom PCB-s that your own switches could be attached to instead of having to gut a shifter for it. But for the life of me I cant find his posts online, maybe he got hit with a C&D.
Edit: still couldnt find that one with the custom PCB, but how cool is this, from 10 years ago:

Can I replace the RD-R8050-GS cage for one from a different series? The cage is pretty knackered and I need to replace the jockey wheels as well, so I thought I could look at buying a broken mech and using it for spares.

That's something like you get on a tron bike!
that is fair - appreciate your input. i will look to get a new ring once the slapping issue is sorted
