From the description it is a gimmick and you probably wouldn't use it much either, saved quite a bit of money there that you can spend on nice knives.

Thanks for the write up @dancing james
Following some of the sharpening chat on here I started to look at knife sharpening subscription business - there are a few out there but none like this US business https://knifeaid.com/ who I think have positioned themselves particularly well

I searched for Horl but couldn’t find it discussed on this thread. I am really impressed by it.

Wicked Edge really works and is very satisfying. Stupid money, so do a saved search on ebay and wait.

I've been redirected by @dancing james, so I'm copypasting my post from the knife appreciation thread
I'll be visiting Japan in September and want to bring myself at least one kitchen knife (santoku/bunka/gyuto and maybe a nakiri, in the range of 250€) from a traditional knife maker. Did any of you do something similar and can give me a few tips? I'm very uneducated (in this topic, but also in general) right now, so I'd be happy for any info regarding where, who, what, etc. Thanks!

That's a good looking knife. What is a wa handle?
-
• #5285
It’s the octagonal traditional Japanese handle.

The yen is at the moment fairly weak against the pound, so you can get a good deal.
If you’re going to Kyoto then I’d look to buy one from Shigeharu knives - the guy doesn’t speak much English but is a traditional knife maker. I now have two of his knives after visits to Japan. If you’ll be in Tokyo then Kappabashi will probably be your best bet or certainly a good starting point. Kamata and Kama-asa are my two favourites. Though most stores will be happy to talk you through what knives they have.
There are tons of posts on this in the Reddit /chefknives or other similar. Personally I found this a really useful source of info.

Has anyone spotted any cheap deals on a kitchen knife. I recall someone posting about one ages ago.
Edit.
attempted to UTFS and saw this:
https://heinnie.com/samura-kaiju-santoku-knifeThough it's not the knife I'd seen here before

Pro Cook, I think that was the one. Cheers for the Russums link

Procook are decent (not amazing) for the price.
TK Maxx may have some decent stuff if you're somewhere where they still sell knives

I’d like a knife for fishing, having lost my dads old one. Any recommendations for something brightly coloured (pink, orange etc), folding, locking (or pretty stiff when open) and that has very little “tactical” vibes? Ideally <£40
Baaah. I asked about Horl months ago, y’all said it was a gimmick and I should get a Lansky.
Got an AliExpress version and I’ve never used it cause I can’t be bothered fiddling with the set up.
