What are everyone’s thoughts on gas hobs and benzene emissions?
We have an old Smeg range cooker with gas hobs, see no reason to replace it other than the recent spate of articles citing yank research linking gas cookers to high benzene emissions.
Does this only affect leaking/badly-adjusted hobs, or is this a serious issue that warrants weighing in the Smeg & getting a leccy induction hob?

I would say the main reasons to get induction are that it's faster, more efficient, heats up the room less, easier to clean, better for simmering, maybe safer with kids. The cleaner air is a side benefit.

We recently switched to induction from only ever using gas and its a bit of a revelation. So much cleaner and easier to clean. Wouldn't go back.

Any suggestions for stick-on, clip-on, etc over timers? The beeper is fucked in our oven and I'd like to not burn the flat down, so was thinking if I stuck one on the front it'd remind me to use it (no, I won't use my phone for this task)

This one (magnetic + clip) https://amzn.eu/d/3iNrHei (not sure if available outwith bezosland). Only slight flaw is that the beeps could be a little louder.

That looks like it has about 7 buttons too many but I like the magnet option. Could be a go'er

Multiple timers are useful!

You overestimate my level of cooking. All I want to do is not burn a pizza.

Get one which fits flush to the work surface - some people dont like the digital controls but I find them fine. Our hob has the ability to make the cooking 'zones' bigger which is quite handy when using different sized pans/trays

Would also suggest getting one that has a separate control for each ring. Fuck tapping away selecting, changing, deselecting rings on the panel when stuff is boiling over. We have a big 5 ring AEG which makes you feel like a pro without spending all the money.

Me mam has one with individual, physical knobs for each ring, which I deffo prefer over digital controls.

Probably not what you want but this is 99% of my non-music Alexa use.

Well, found out why our oven smelled of burnt wood the other day.

better for simmering
This has never been my experience.
All the induction hobs I've used are shite for simmering. And as for trying to get a proper rolling boil for cooking pasta, it's either not boiling, or boiling so much that it boils over, and it seems like using the same setting as seemed to work an hour ago now has a completely different behaviour pattern. -

Anyone got any experience of these mixers? They seem to get surprisingly good reviews. Or any other recommendations for mixers that will easily fit in a kitchen cupboard?

What is the goto extraction? Would like something that I’m not going to smash my face into. Currently have an Elica thing in my eyeline, venting out of an external wall.
Excuse the mess..

I cant speak to what the best for extraction quality is, but we have one of the angled hoods, which i can tell you as a tall person is fantastic for low head bonk levels, im forever hitting my head on the other kind when i use other peoples kitchens.
Persoanly i would have prefered a more traditional shaped one like yours, but Bosch accidently sent ours when we had ordered a much cheaper one...so we just kept it. If you can get over the look it works well.

Save yourself some money and just raise that one up a foot.
The height recommendations are for minimum height - You can get away with much, much higher - the technical drawings will give you an idea of high high you can go without having to do weird things with ducting.
The two terminals on the element.
Test for continuity or resistance.
Lack of beep = bin.
0Ω reading = bin.
Unless, of course, you have an intermittent fault.
